Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) showed its commitment to support the Philippine government’s electric vehicle (EV) push, as the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) Executive Order has been issued.
MMPC said that the EVIS represents a significant step toward accelerating vehicle electrification, strengthening local automotive manufacturing, and supporting the continued growth of the Philippine automotive industry. The Japanese car brand has been showing its readiness to participate in the EVIS program through Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s P7 billion investment to locally produce hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) in the Philippines.
In fact, last April 2026, Mitsubishi announced that it intends to have a dedicated HEV production line at its Laguna plant and has submitted its proposal to the Philippine government to be part of the EVIS program. Mitsubishi Motors Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Takao Kato met with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Finance Secretary Frederick Go to express the car brand’s intention to produce HEVs in the Philippines.
“Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation welcomes the issuance of the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) Executive Order, which marks an important milestone in advancing vehicle electrification and strengthening the automotive industry in the Philippines. Backed by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s P7 billion investment commitment, we are ready to support the government’s vision through the local production of hybrid electric vehicles, further enhancing the country’s manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness,” said MMPC Chairman Noriaki Hirakata.
Mitsubishi Motors has been a pioneer in electrified vehicle development, continuously advancing technologies that balance environmental performance with the quality, reliability, durability, and safety that customers have come to expect from the brand.

Meanwhile, back in May 2026, MMPC President Ritsu Imaeda said during the ASEAN Business Exchange panel that Mitsubishi saw big potential for the Philippine market. This is one of the reasons why the car brand has decided to have a dedicated HEV production line at its Santa Rosa plant in Laguna.
“We felt big potential in this market for the further growth of the automotive [market]. It has not expanded yet compared to other countries, [but] we still strongly feel the potential,” said MMPC President Ritsu Imaeda.

Mitsubishi is clearly showing that it is committed and ready to support the Philippine government’s push for EVs, as it has been continuously making it clear that it wants to be part of the EVIS program. Mitsubishi is not giving any mixed signals since it has been determined to show its interest in making a contribution to the future of the Philippine automotive industry. A testament to its commitment is its planned P7 billion investment to locally produce hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) in the Philippines. As such, we can expect that MMPC will be producing HEV models such as the Xpander, which is said to have a next-generation model in the brand’s pipeline.
