MG TRQ L – Everything you need to know

MG Philippines has launched its competitor into the local pickup truck market: the MG TRQ L, giving the British marque added versatility in its lineup. From crossovers like the ZS to MPVs like the G50, the TRQ L adds pickups as another category to the already extensive range.

At its heart is a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine producing 158 hp and 400 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Exterior-wise, the TRQ L presents boxy body lines. Found in areas such as the large grille, to the squared wheel arches, giving the truck some much-welcomed musculature.

Going to the rear of the vehicle, the TRQ L boasts quite a sizable bed, standing at 58 inches long, 59 inches wide, and 20 inches tall. This truck is a capable workhorse easily able to handle items as small as everyday groceries, to golf bags from everyday users, to steel beams and lumber from a tradesman.

Stepping into the leather-wrapped interior, the MG TRQ-L presents a bold but comfortable cabin. Presenting that boxy musculature much like that found in the exterior, from the 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smack-dab in the center of the dashboard, to even the little things like the cupholders between the front seats.

Workhorse dependability and comfortable seating aren’t the only things the TRQ-L has going for it, as this pickup also comes with numerous safety features. Aside from anti-lock brakes and cruise control that come standard with most modern vehicles, to name a few, this truck also comes with Electronic Brake Assist (EBA) to help prevent any potential rear-end collisions, and also Hill Descent Control (HDC) for those who like to take their truck off-roading.

With the pickup truck landscape having multiple dogs in the fight, from Toyota with its bulletproof Hilux, to the likes of GWM with the Cannon, will MG be able to plant its feet in this market? Considering how expansive its lineup is, I don’t see that being an issue for them, but only time will tell until we see the TRQ-L on the Philippine roads.

Full pricing will be revealed on October 23, 2025.
