Could this be the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero?

Mitsubishi Motors has been releasing breadcrumbs that suggest the return of the Pajero. In early January, the Japanese automaker shared a hint that it will be launching a new vehicle, which further adds to the speculation that the Pajero could indeed be making a comeback.

Now, spy shots of a heavily camouflaged vehicle were spotted in Australia, thanks to the quick snaps of David Breedon. The vehicle that Breedon captured is wrapped meticulously with the familiar black and white camo. However, key details can be seen once you take a closer look at the images, leading to the question: could the vehicle wrapped in black and white skin be the next-generation Mitsubishi Pajero?

As with all spy shots, details are limited and are subject to one’s speculation. The images captured show only the rear section of the vehicle, but a glance at it could remind you of the design language integrated into the Mitsubishi Destinator. Of note, the spy shots show a beefy rear bumper, and it appears that the vehicle in question is larger than the Destinator.

The taillights suggest that it could come with a similar pattern as seen on the Destinator, giving the vehicle a modern appeal. Also seen on the spy shots are the prominent wheel arches, roof rails, roof-mounted spoiler with third brake light, side step board, and large wheels, which are design details commonly integrated into SUVs.

Previously, we reported that the upcoming Mitsubishi vehicle will have a ladder-frame chassis, making it a truck-based vehicle, and not a unibody like the Destinator. The platform is said to be closely related to the Mitsubishi Triton and the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, likely featuring rear-wheel-drive-based four-wheel drive and a live rear axle.

Reports from Japan indicate that Mitsubishi is targeting to launch the new vehicle, which could be the Pajero, by late 2026, with production set to begin in Thailand before exports begin.
