MG Philippines has started 2026 on a high note as it recently held an event highlighting its continued financial partnership with some of the country’s leading bank companies. Dubbed as the “MG 5-Star Drive” event, the gathering mobilized around a fun road trip featuring the all-new MG HS Hybrid+.

Held on February 19, 2026, the drive brought together 30 bank officers from institutions including Banco de Oro (BDO), Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Philippine National Bank (PNB), Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), Security Bank, among others.

The activity began with breakfast and opening program pleasantries at MG Greenhills, where the brand highlighted the HS Hybrid+’s design, tech, and capabilities. Then, participants embarked on a drive covering EDSA traffic conditions, NLEX highway cruising, and mixed provincial roads en route to Clark, Pampanga. The route was plotted to demonstrate the model’s hybrid adaptability in real-world driving.

According to MG, the HS Hybrid+ boasts a fuel economy rating of 21.55 km/L. The brand claims the figure as certified by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), the country’s recognized organization that certifies automotive standards such as fuel economy testing. During the fuel economy challenge, two groups came out on top, achieving 22.2 km/L through efficient driving techniques.

The first to arrive at Clark was the team of China Bank Savings and Sterling Bank, represented by Francis Mendoza, Paulo Condes, Marivic Dela Fuente, and Eliz Solomon. They were trailed in second by the team of Security Bank and Maybank, consisting of Earl Moulic, Lovely Esguerra, Donnie Ray San Diego, and Noel Austria.

Beyond showcasing hybrid performance, the event reinforced MG Philippines’ commitment to collaboration with banks to improve financing accessibility, streamline loan approvals, and enhance its brand presence in the local banking industry. Operating under SAIC Motor Philippines, the company continues to expand its hybrid offerings as part of its push to provide more accessible electrified mobility solutions for Filipinos.

Autocar’s take

Product briefings are common. What differentiates this event is the decision to let financial partners experience the vehicle firsthand in different traffic scenarios. For hybrid models, efficiency on real roads matter more than brochure figures. By directly involving bank partners, MG strengthens the link between product performance and financing accessibility.

In a market such as the Philippine, where financing deals often drive purchasing decisions,  closer coordination with trusted bank partners and lenders through fun events such as this  can accelerate hybrid adoptions. The strategy shows an understanding that electrified mobility growth depends as much on financing structures as it does on engineering.
