Upholding its commitment to environmental stewardship, Honda Foundation, Inc. (HFI) recently participated in International Coastal Cleanup Day. Organized by the Sta. Rosa City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), it was held in Barangay Caingin, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

The event focused on protecting marine ecosystems and raising awareness of the effects of environmental neglect. It highlighted the consequences of irresponsible waste management, such as habitat destruction and biodiversity loss, which threaten both marine life and human health. HFI and CENRO gathered hundreds of volunteers who’ve tirelessly worked along the shoreline of Laguna De Bay, the Philippines’ largest freshwater lake. The lake is not only a vital source of livelihood, but also an important habitat for a wide range of fish species.

More than 2,000 volunteers from diverse backgrounds, including government offices, private companies, schools, civic organizations, and other community groups, participated in the coastal cleanup. Representatives from HFI’s member companies have also participated in the event. These companies include Honda Trading Philippines Ecozone Corp. (HTPE), Philippines, Inc. (HPI), Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), and Honda Parts Manufacturing Corp. (HPMC). Each organization sent delegates, led by HTPE President Seiki Futagoishi, to demonstrate its utmost commitment to the cause and reinforce Honda’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation.

The combined efforts resulted in the collection and segregation of 12,231 kg of debris, which were later taken to a dump site in San Pedro for proper disposal.

HFI emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in preserving waterways and natural resources, encouraging Filipinos to participate in activities that promote a cleaner and healthier environment. The organization emphasized that long-term sustainability depends on the collective actions of individuals, communities, and institutions.
