Launched in the Philippines in early 2023, the Honda Civic Type R FL5 has successfully filled the big shoes left by its predecessor, the Civic Type R FK8. Having gained much attention in the enthusiasts community, it’s now time for the FL5 to say goodbye.

Yes, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has announced that the current generation of its halo car is taking its final lap in the country, marking the end of an era for one of the most celebrated performance cars in the local industry.

With this in mind, HCPI is offering its customers a final opportunity to secure the remaining units of the 2025 model Civic Type R. It stressed that, while the high-performance hatchback is bowing out, the legacy it leaves behind will forever be an inspiration to all.

“We are extremely grateful for how well our customers have received the Civic Type R and shown their appreciation for this model over the past eight years. We are confident that this model’s legacy will inspire us as our model range continues to evolve, especially our current and upcoming models that will always give our customers the familiar, fun-to-drive spirit of Honda,” shared HCPI President Rie Miyake.

As the Civic Type R gears up for its final run, HCPI reflected on the legacy of the Civic Type R lineage and how it affected the local car community. For more than two decades, the Civic Type R showcased Honda’s engineering excellence, blending power, technology, and design into a compact high-performance body. From its first generation, the EK9, to today’s FL5, the Civic Type R pushed the limits of front-wheel-drive performance.

It was in 2017 when the Philippines saw its first official Civic Type R sold under HCPI. Its FK8 version, which gained quite a stir on both sides of the opinion fence, primarily because of its aggressive styling, was launched at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). Initially, HCPI brought in only 100 units of the FK8 to test its market reception. All have been accounted for in less than 48 hours upon release.

The Philippine-spec FK8 received an update in 2021, introducing Honda SENSING driver-assist technology, upgraded brakes, and new color options. Then, in 2023, HCPI succeeded it with the FL5, continuing the Type R’s influence on local roads and car culture.

In closing, HCPi says that interested buyers of the remaining 2025 Civic Type R FL5 units are encouraged to visit their nearest Honda dealerships to inquire or secure a purchase.
