Green GSM brings VinFast EV taxis to Northern Mindanao

Green GSM has officially launched its all-electric taxi service in Northern Mindanao, expanding its electric mobility network beyond the country’s major urban centers.

The service is now available in El Salvador, Cagayan de Oro (CDO), Laguindingan, Alubijid and Opol, giving residents and visitors another option for daily trips, intercity travel and airport transfers. Customers can book through the Green GSM app, contact its customer service hotline or hail an available taxi on the street.

The Northern Mindanao launch follows a trial period that began in late August. That gives the company an opportunity to move from initial testing into regular operations in the region on a wider scale. Green GSM says the region represents another step in expanding its coverage in the Philippines, following earlier electric taxi operations in Metro Manila, Central Visayas and other parts of Mindanao.

Unlike conventional taxi fleets, Green GSM operates with a 100% electric fleet made up of VinFast vehicles. The company says the setup provides quieter and smoother journeys while producing no tailpipe emissions during operation.

Green GSM is also highlighting its “5 Green Promises,” covering Good Cars, Good Drivers, Good Prices, Good Experiences and Good for the Environment. Its drivers undergo training covering driving skills, professional conduct and road safety, while fares are displayed through the app or the official in-car meter.

That transparent pricing approach could be particularly useful for longer journeys, including airport transfers and intercity trips, where passengers may want to know the fare before setting off.

The company says the expansion could also bring benefits beyond transportation, including additional employment opportunities for service drivers and stronger regional connectivity.

To support the launch, new Green GSM users who register will receive 15 Green Points, equivalent to P15, which can be used toward discounts on Green GSM rides.

Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, global CEO of Green SM, said the Northern Mindanao expansion will increase coverage while giving more residents access to electric mobility. He added that the company plans to continue developing its network and working with local partners to build a scalable electric transportation model in the Philippines.

With Northern Mindanao now part of its operating network, Green GSM is continuing to build its presence around electric taxis, bringing VinFast-based mobility to more passengers outside the country’s largest metropolitan areas.

Autocar’s Take

Green GSM’s Northern Mindanao expansion is interesting because it puts electric taxis into a market beyond Metro Manila. The VinFast-based fleet also makes the service visibly different from conventional taxis, while app-based booking and transparent fares address practical concerns passengers face. The bigger question is how well the service performs once daily demand, longer trips and airport runs put the fleet to a real-world test.

Electric taxis make sense on paper, but reliability, charging availability and consistent service will ultimately shape the overall experience locally. For passengers in CDO and nearby areas, having another mobility option is a welcome development, and VinFast seems ready for the challenge.
