Grab Philippines has been recognized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) as one of this year’s “Bayani sa Last-Mile” awardees, highlighting the company’s efforts to make digital services more accessible while creating livelihood opportunities for Filipinos through its platform. The recognition was presented during the DICT’s Digital Bayanihan Awards, which also marked the agency’s 10th anniversary.
The award recognizes organizations that have contributed to the country’s digital transformation, with Grab cited for helping connect consumers, merchants, and delivery-partners through its digital platform. The company said the recognition reflects how last-mile delivery has evolved beyond simply transporting goods, becoming an important link between technology and everyday life.
According to Grab Philippines Managing Director Ronald Roda, last-mile delivery enables small businesses to serve more customers, gives families easier access to goods and services, and opens flexible earning opportunities for delivery-partners through digital platforms. He added that the company remains committed to working with the government in building a more inclusive digital economy.

Supporting that effort is Grab Asenso: A Digital Diskarte Program, a public-private initiative designed to help micro, small, and medium enterprises embrace digital tools. Endorsed by the DICT and partner local government units, the program combines mobile-based learning with business management features available through the GrabMerchant app. Entrepreneurs are trained in digital marketing, financial planning, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence to strengthen their businesses and improve their online presence.
The initiative also introduces AI-powered tools that assist merchants in creating promotions, improving product descriptions, responding to customer trends, and adopting cashless payment solutions, helping smaller businesses compete in an increasingly digital marketplace.
For DICT, the recognition reinforces the idea that digital transformation should deliver tangible benefits to communities by creating opportunities for businesses, workers, and consumers. Grab said it intends to continue collaborating with both government and private sector partners to expand access to inclusive and resilient digital services across the country.

Recognition like the DICT’s “Bayani sa Last-Mile” award highlights how digital transformation is becoming more meaningful when it translates into real opportunities for Filipinos. Beyond food and parcel delivery, platforms like Grab are increasingly serving as tools for livelihood creation and MSME digitalization. While challenges surrounding the gig economy remain, initiatives that provide digital skills, AI tools, and access to a wider customer base can help small businesses become more competitive. With strong and continued support, programs like Grab Asenso could play a significant role in strengthening the country’s digital economy while making technology more accessible to entrepreneurs and workers alike.
