Grab Philippines has recently unveiled its Women Program as part of its GrabAsenso campaign, aiming to facilitate the entry of women into the transportation industry. This initiative, launched on March 8, 2024, in collaboration with TESDA, intends to provide tailored training and support for women interested in becoming driver-partners on the Grab platform.
Grace Vera Cruz, the Country Head of Grab Philippines, emphasizes the importance of fostering inclusivity and gender equality within the company. Recognizing the societal barriers that often deter women from pursuing driving as a profession, Grab aims to address these concerns through its Women Program. By offering specialized training modules covering aspects like vehicle maintenance, customer service, and safety protocols, Grab seeks to equip women with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the transportation sector.
Furthermore, Grab is establishing women driver-partner communities both online and offline to facilitate networking, support, and camaraderie among female partners. These communities will provide a platform for women to connect, share experiences, and celebrate achievements. Additionally, Grab is organizing events such as “Babae Ako, Babiyahe Ako” to recognize the contributions of women driver-partners.
Safety remains a top priority for Grab, particularly for women driver-partners who may face increased risks. To address safety concerns, Grab is testing a new feature called “Women Passengers Preferred BETA,” allowing women driver-partners to indicate their preference for female passengers. This feature aims to enhance safety and provide peace of mind for women operating on the platform.
As part of its broader commitment to gender equality, Grab has launched the #WomenWelcome campaign, coinciding with International Women’s Day. Through this campaign, Grab seeks to raise awareness about the challenges faced by women in the transportation industry and highlight its efforts to create a more inclusive environment.
The Women Program will not be limited to the Philippines but will also be rolled out across Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, in the first half of 2024. Grab’s expansion of its Women Program underscores its commitment to promoting economic empowerment and gender equality throughout the region.
