GAC Emkoo HEV is back in PH with P1.38 million intro price

GAC Philippines is doubling down on its electrified push this year, with the return of the Emkoo HEV. After a few months’ hiatus in the local market, the Chinese brand is set to reintroduce the hybrid crossover at the 2026 Auto Focus Summer Test Drive Festival. Positioned as a key player in the brand’s new energy lineup, the Emkoo HEV signals a refreshed focus on new-energy mobility, with everyday usability and a more progressive take on performance and design in mind.

The return of the Emkoo HEV comes at a time when more Filipino buyers are beginning to explore alternatives to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered vehicles. The best part about this is hybrids like the Emkoo HEV offer a more familiar transition, pairing fuel efficiency with fewer range-related concerns. Hybrid electric mobility is a space that continues to grow locally, and GAC intends to carve out a stronger foothold in the segment.

The GAC Emkoo HEV uses a full parallel hybrid system, designed to balance performance and efficiency in daily driving conditions. While GAC has kept the focus on its futuristic design language, the driving experience is touted as both responsive and environmentally conscious — a combination that aligns well with shifting market expectations, where style and substance go hand in hand.

Pricing also plays a role in its appeal. With an introductory price of P1.38 million, the GAC Emkoo HEV undercuts many of its competitors, making hybrid technology more accessible to a wider audience. Additional event-based discounts and financing offers further strengthen its value proposition.

At the Auto Focus Summer Test Drive Festival,  the Emkoo HEV shares the spotlight with the fully electric Aion V and Hyptec HT, along with the larger GS8 HEV. These models form a lineup that reflects GAC’s strategy of offering electrified options across different segments. The Emkoo HEV stands out for its compact footprint and distinct styling, aimed at younger buyers or urban drivers.

Beyond the product itself, GAC Philippines is backing its push with a growing dealership network and aftersales infrastructure, including a dedicated parts warehouse in Manila. This is the brand’s way of easing ownership concerns, particularly for electrified vehicles. With the Emkoo Hybrid back in the mix, GAC is not just adding another model, it is reinforcing its intent to stay relevant in an evolving market.

Autocar’s Take

The GAC Emkoo HEV’s return doesn’t come across as a grand revival. It’s actually a well-timed adjustment. Right now, the market tends to swing between sticking with what’s familiar and going all-in on electric, with very little in between. The Emkoo HEV slips into the gap without too much fanfare, offering something that could be easier to live with for many buyers.

What makes it interesting isn’t just the hybrid system, but the way it’s positioned. GAC has read the room — understanding that many buyers are still weighing their options, not rushing into full electrification. Bringing the Emkoo HEV back at a more approachable price makes it easier to consider, especially for those who want to try something different.
