Caltex Philippines goes beyond being a simple place to get gas

In an era dominated by talk of electrification and alternative energy, the classic pit stop remains the backbone of Filipino mobility. While the industry pivots, Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI), the marketer of Caltex, is doubling down on its physical footprint and community impact.

Under the new leadership of Country Chairman Pongtorn “Bon” Tangmanuswong, who brings over 15 years of regional experience from Chevron’s Cambodia operations, the brand is hitting the accelerator. CPI recently added 22 new service stations in key hubs like Makati, Tagaytay, and Bacolod, while pushing further north to Laoag and south to Puerto Princesa.

Growth isn’t confined to the forecourt. The Havoline Autopro and BikePro network expanded to 500 locations last year, strengthening nationwide after-sales support. Strategic land partnerships with Batangas Land Company (BLC) have also secured key footholds in industrial centers, including Sasa in Davao and San Fernando Point in La Union.

Retail partnerships further enhance the stopover experience. A collaboration with Pickup Coffee has expanded to 32 in-station locations as of early 2024. As Pickup Coffee CEO Francis Flores noted, the goal is to meet customers exactly where they are. This complements Caltex’s long-standing tie-up with 7-Eleven, which now counts 123 branches within the station network.

Corporate social responsibility remains a cornerstone of CPI’s activities. Chevron continues to support the ScholaCOLORun organized by AmCham Foundation Philippines, which raises funds for underprivileged youth. The latest run drew 3,458 participants, including 290 from Chevron, resulting in 109 scholars receiving educational support. AmCham President Edwin Feist remarked, “Here at AmCham, we believe that education is the key to fighting poverty. We are grateful for Chevron and CHI’s support throughout the years, as this partnership has helped many young Filipinos fulfill their potential and provide for their families.”

Environmental initiatives also remain active. In San Pascual, Batangas, 250 Chevron volunteers joined in the company’s annual coastal cleanup, collecting 232 bags of trash and helping preserve a nesting site for Olive Ridley sea turtles.

Meanwhile, members of the Caltex Makati Credit Cooperative extended support to Guanella Center, Inc., engaging with individuals with special needs through social activities and outreach.

Taken together, these initiatives show that Caltex’s recent expansion is not simply about adding stations; it’s about strengthening the ecosystem around them. From broader service coverage and enhanced retail conveniences for long drives to sustained investments in education and environmental stewardship, CPI’s growth strategy underscores a commitment to supporting Filipino motorists and the communities they travel through.
