BYD is known for many things, from the ease of use of models like the Tang DM-I, the practicality of the Shark DM-O, value for money of the Seal 5 DM-I. Now, safety can be added to the roster with the Seal flagship EV heralding the title. The New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) for Southeast Asian countries has completed crash testing of the BYD Seal sedan, marking the debut of NCAP safety tests for the Chinese marque in the region.
Previously, BYD has had quite a strong reputation with NCAP safety tests elsewhere, such as in Europe, where other models like the Atto 3, Tang, Dolphin, Sealion 5 (called the Seal-U in the Euro market), Seagull (Dolphin Surf in the EU), and the Seal, all of which have got a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP tests.
Now that the Shenzhen manufacturer is beginning to have its models crash-tested here in Southeast Asia, BYD has proven its mettle as a manufacturer aligned with the region’s safety standards.
The Seal hits the ground running with strong passenger protection for the front seats, with critical areas like the passengers’ heads and torsos receiving ample protection in the event of a head-on or side-impact. Rear protection is impressive as well, with more than enough protection for children in the back seat with a booster seat installed.
Safety amenities don’t stop at just the interior. For safety features, the Seal comes with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) to help prevent rear-end collisions. Blind Spot Detection is another feature of the Seal that helps ensure safety for both those in and out of the car, including other road users such as motorcyclists.
What does this mean, in the end, for Seal owners in the Philippines? This means that owners of the Seal in the Philippines and elsewhere in Southeast Asia can walk up and get into their BYD with the peace of mind that they, as well as their fellow passengers, will be safe and sound no matter what happens. The Seal may be the flagship, but tech trickling down to more affordable models isn’t surprising – it’s a clear indication that BYD is serious about making vehicles and not disregarding its customers’ safety.
