Omoda has revealed the Omoda X in Wuhu, China, during the Chery Auto International User Summit. The Omoda X previews the brand’s future design language, which is highlighted by striking, assertive, and bold styling.
The Chinese car brand said that the Omoda X is a Cross Off-Road Vehicle (COV) concept, a design that intends to combine the versatility of an SUV, the capabilities of an off-road vehicle, and the persona of a sports car. Omoda also wanted to combine the practicality of everyday use while being a crossover vehicle that can be taken out for outdoor activities and driven on unpaved roads.
The Omoda X has an angular and sharp exterior design. It is also integrated with geometric patterns, making it look striking and aggressive. The car brand shared that the Omoda X draws inspiration from “mecha culture,” which is influenced by science fiction, animation, and video games. This explains why the Omoda X comes with sharp character lines and prominent fender flares.
If you’re into numbers, the Omoda X measures 4,954mm long, 1,920mm wide, and 1,702mm tall, along with a wheelbase of 2,700mm. It also has 200mm of ground clearance and 700mm wading depth, which are said to be handy in case the Omoda X needs to drive through uneven terrain and tackle routes “where a conventional vehicle might encounter greater limitations.” Omoda added that the X has a towing capacity of up to 1,800 kilograms, and offers a maximum roof load of 75 kilograms.
Inside, it has a tri-tone interior theme that is integrated with a modern dashboard layout as well as a sports car-like center console. It also has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch central multimedia touchscreen. Omoda explains that the layout of the controls is designed to facilitate access to information and the vehicle’s main functions, with physical buttons for common operations such as climate control and driving mode selection.
The Omoda X is also integrated with Super Intelligent AI Space (SIAS), an artificial intelligence-based platform. The brand said that it is designed to facilitate more natural communication with the multimedia system, without necessarily relying on specific activation commands.
Meanwhile, Omoda has yet to share the X’s powertrain details. It only mentioned that the Omoda X is designed to accommodate various electrified powertrain technologies such as hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions, including all-wheel-drive variants.
