The GAC Aion UT compact electric vehicle (EV) has earned a five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). GAC Philippines said that this five-star safety rating is a testament to the Aion UT’s uncompromised safety engineering.
The Aion UT managed to perform well across all four key categories or tests under the Euro NCAP, which include the following: Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance, Crash Protection, and Post-Crash Safety.
The Euro NCAP rated the GAC Aion UT’s Safe Driving at 66 percent, while it got a rating of 74 percent for Crash Avoidance, 91 percent for Crash Protection, and 88 percent for Post-Crash Safety. The Aion UT was evaluated under significantly stricter criteria, which place heavy emphasis on active safety, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and vulnerable road user protection.
GAC PH said that the Aion UT’s “Dragon-Bone Embraced Body Structure” is one of the reasons that contributed to allowing the electric hatch to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. The Dragon-Bone is made up of high-strength steel that’s said to account for 71 percent of the Aion UT’s body. Key structural features include a one-piece hot-stamped dual-ring design, an extra-wide 180mm crash box, and a roof capable of withstanding up to 8 tons of load, according to the Chinese car brand.

The GAC Aion UT is also integrated with seven airbags, which feature a 2.1-meter V-side air curtain and a front far-side airbag to mitigate occupant-to-occupant impacts during side collisions. Aside from these, it is also equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view camera system.
GAC PH General Manager Calvin Cheng expressed that the Aion UT’s five-star Euro NCAP safety rating is a testament to the car brand’s commitment to producing safe cars.
“Earning the Euro NCAP Five-Star Safety Certification represents the ultimate endorsement from an authoritative international body for the AION UT’s uncompromised safety engineering. More than just an award, this milestone is a testament to our deep passion and commitment to empower and modernize mobility for Filipinos, bringing world-class safety and cutting-edge electric innovation right to local streets,” Cheng said.
Of note, reservations for the GAC Aion UT are now open at GAC dealerships nationwide. The introductory pricing of P998,000 is available until September 30, 2026. The Aion UT comes in six exterior color options, including Champs-Elysees Beige, Emerald Green, Rococo White, Seine Silver, Twilight Lavender, and Two-Tone options for Rococo White and Emerald Green.

Autocar’s Take
The Aion UT’s five-star Euro NCAP safety rating speaks volumes as to how GAC develops and produces its vehicles. It goes to show that GAC is taking car safety seriously, and the Aion UT’s performance in the safety tests under Euro NCAP is a testament to it. This also helps in completely removing the stigma attached to Chinese cars, as it now proves that it can withstand and perform well in global safety standards. As such, GAC Philippines said that this five-star safety rating is a testament to the Aion UT’s uncompromised safety engineering.
