Ford Ranger Wildtrak V6 gets LTO approval anew, PH launch looms

Ford Philippines appears to be getting closer to introducing a more powerful Ranger to the local market, with another V6-powered variant now receiving another approval from the Land Transportation Office (LTO). The latest approval covers the Ranger Wildtrak 3.0L V6 4×4, a version equipped with Ford’s 2,993cc turbo-diesel V6, a 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

The development adds another piece to an interesting picture surrounding Ford’s next-generation Ranger lineup in the Philippines. The company has yet to officially announce the model, but multiple regulatory approvals suggest that preparations for its arrival are well underway.

If given the green light, the V6-powered Ranger would occupy an interesting place in Ford Philippines’ lineup. The company already offers the Ranger Raptor with a 3.0-liter V6, but that engine is a twin-turbo gasoline unit designed around performance. The incoming Wildtrak, meanwhile, is expected to use a turbo-diesel V6, giving it a very different character.

Ford’s current Philippine Ranger lineup remains centered around 2.0-liter turbo-diesel and bi-turbo diesel engines, with the Wildtrak 4×4 currently using the latter. A V6 diesel would therefore provide a substantial step up in displacement and torque while retaining the Ranger’s more conventional pickup configuration.

The developments also extend beyond the Ranger. Homologation activity has pointed toward additional Everest variants, suggesting that Ford may be preparing a major update to its local pickup and SUV offerings.

Ford has not yet confirmed when the V6 Ranger will reach Philippine dealerships, nor has it announced local pricing or final specifications. Its current Philippine price list continues to show the 2.0-liter Wildtrak as the top conventional Ranger variant, alongside the separate Raptor range.

For now, the latest LTO approval is another indication that the V6 Ranger program is progressing. If Ford ultimately brings the Wildtrak 3.0L V6 to the Philippines, it could give buyers a new alternative between the everyday capability of the standard Ranger and the more extreme character of the Raptor.

Autocar’s Take

Ford’s move toward a V6 diesel Ranger makes a lot of sense, especially for buyers who want serious power without stepping into Raptor territory. The Wildtrak has always been positioned as the more premium, lifestyle-oriented Ranger, so giving it a larger diesel engine could make it considerably more attractive to enthusiasts who still need a practical pickup.

What’s interesting here, however, is how Ford will price it. The Ranger already has a wide spread of variants, and a V6 Wildtrak will need enough separation from the Raptor to justify its existence. If Ford gets that balance right, this could be a very compelling Ranger indeed.
