Toyota plans to launch an updated version of the Land Cruiser FJ in early 2027, according to a report published by Japanese news website Creative Trend. The updated Toyota Land Cruiser FJ could debut as early as January 2027, in time for the Tokyo Auto Salon, which will run from January 15 to 17.
The updated Land Cruiser FJ is said to feature several product enhancements, including round LED headlights. Creative Trend reports that Toyota will offer a round headlight option for the updated Land Cruiser FJ, available as a factory-installed component. Offering the vehicle with round headlights is a nod to the classic Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 series. As such, it can appeal to individuals who want to have a touch of retro and classic design detail.
Aside from the new headlight design option, Toyota will also reportedly introduce a revised front bumper that gives the updated Land Cruiser FJ a higher and more rugged off-road appearance. The Japanese automaker could also be offering genuine off-road accessories, which can be installed as a dealer option. If true, this will allow potential clients to personalize their Land Cruiser FJ straight from the dealerships.
Inside, the overall layout is said to be similar to the current Land Cruiser FJ. But Toyota could integrate a digital rearview mirror into the updated boxy off-road vehicle. Other than that, Creative Trend reports that the new Land Cruiser FJ’s cabin will remain as is.
When it comes to engine options, the updated Land Cruiser FJ could most likely still be offered with a 2.7-liter gasoline engine, the same power unit found in the current version. The diesel power unit for the Land Cruiser FJ is reportedly not in the launch period yet, but Toyota is said to be considering equipping the Land Cruiser FJ with a turbo diesel engine around 2029 or later.
Now, there are also reports that Toyota could be launching Land Cruiser FJ special edition models, which could be the production version of the concept vehicles it has revealed at the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS). As a review, the Land Cruiser FJ concepts showcased at the 2026 BIMS are the following: Land Cruiser FJ “Street Cruiser” Concept, Land Cruiser FJ “Nature Explorer” Concept, and Land Cruiser FJ “Legendary” Concept.
