BYD has revealed the interior of the all-new Tang, which is expected to debut in China before the end of the year. The most noticeable detail in the Tang’s new interior is arguably the massive screen seen on the dashboard, which is roughly the size of four iPads or tablets placed together.
The Chinese automaker said that the all-new BYD Tang’s dashboard layout is inspired by the control panel of a spaceship. The Tang’s new interior will be available in two color options: Dune Beige and Amber Brown. Comparing the new to the old interior, the all-new BYD Tang has a more refined and clutter-free cabin layout.
The most noticeable update is the massive screen that stretches across almost the entire width of the dashboard. It also comes with a narrow digital screen, placed on top of the dashboard, that displays weather information, the gear indicator, the clock, among others. The Tang’s new interior also comes with wireless phone charging, a diamond pattern on the leather, and a panoramic sunroof.
The images suggest that the all-new BYD Tang comes with two different steering wheel designs, which could depend on the interior color. Another detail seen in the images is that the front headrests can be removed so that the front seats can be fully reclined, creating a lounge-like rear seat configuration.

In terms of powertrain, the new BYD Tang is said to be powered by a TZ205QYD electric motor that delivers a maximum power output of 408 horsepower. The all-new Tang comes with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, available in two sizes: 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh. Depending on the variant, the all-new BYD Tang reportedly offers a pure electric driving range of 730 kilometers, 830 kilometers, or 850 kilometers based on the CLTC test cycle. It also has BYD’s flash-charging technology.
BYD previously said that vehicles equipped with Blade Battery 2.0 can charge from 10 to 70 percent in about five minutes. It added that the new battery can reach 97 percent charge in under 10 minutes using the company’s flash-charging technology.
Autocar’s Take
The BYD Tang’s new interior design is dominated by a large screen, making it instantly noticeable when you look at its cabin. The large screen is about the size of four iPads or tablets placed together, which could indicate that the future interior design of cars will be screen-heavy. The case of a massive digital screen is also seen in the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which has a larger screen size compared to the all-new BYD Tang. While having a large digital screen makes the cabin more modern-looking, it means that physical buttons will be absent, which could be a problem once the screen goes wonky.
