Toyota’s upcoming Land Cruiser FJ already has plenty of character, but buyers who prefer a more old-school look may have another reason to wait. A new report from Japan suggests that owners could eventually replace the SUV’s standard square headlights with an optional round LED setup, bringing an even stronger connection to the Land Cruiser’s rugged heritage.
According to Japanese automotive publication Creative Trend, Toyota is preparing a retrofit option for Land Cruiser FJ units already delivered with the standard headlight configuration. The upgrade could become available around March or April 2027, although the final details of the conversion process have yet to be confirmed.
The reported price for the round LED headlights is ¥187,000, or approximately P74,239 based on a rough currency conversion. That is a substantial amount for what might appear to be a relatively small styling change, but the appeal goes beyond illumination. On a vehicle whose identity revolves around its traditional off-road character, the headlights can make a significant difference to its overall appearance.
The round units give the Land Cruiser FJ a more classic face, contrasting with the squared-off design of the standard lamps. It is a styling choice that recalls earlier generations of rugged off-roaders, while retaining the modern proportions and contemporary equipment expected of a new vehicle.

For owners who have already taken delivery of their SUVs, the reported retrofit option is particularly interesting. Buyers would not necessarily have to trade in their vehicles or settle for the original configuration if they later decide that the round headlights better suit their taste. Whether the conversion will require additional components or specific installation procedures remains to be seen.
Toyota has been preparing the Japanese-market Land Cruiser FJ for a broader ordering arrangement, with advance orders reportedly opening on September 18, 2026. Production is expected to begin in November, ahead of a planned official announcement in December. The SUV is listed at ¥4,500,100 in Japan, or around P1,786,707 in today’s exchange rate. Although availability and delivery schedules will depend on the market.
There is, however, an important distinction for Filipino buyers. The round-headlight retrofit discussed in the report concerns Japan, and there is no confirmed announcement that the same option will be offered locally.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has yet to confirm whether it will carry over the headlight update to the Philippine-market Land Cruiser FJ. That is something worth watching, particularly for buyers who prefer the SUV’s more nostalgic appearance.
For now, the possibility of changing the headlights adds another layer of personalization to Toyota’s newest compact off-roader. Whether Filipino owners will eventually get the same choice remains an open question.

Autocar’s Take
The Land Cruiser FJ’s appeal goes beyond its off-road credentials. Its styling is a major part of the package, and the option to switch to round headlights gives owners another way to make the SUV feel more personal. That said, spending around ¥187,000 on a lighting upgrade is not a small decision, especially if the standard headlights already do their job well.
The bigger question for Filipino buyers is whether Toyota Motor Philippines will offer the same option locally. The round lamps suit the FJ’s heritage-inspired design, but local availability remains uncertain until TMP provides an official confirmation.
