Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is all set to rev up the 2026 Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) Philippine Cup yet again after putting it on hold due to the energy crisis and concerns over fuel supply stability.

As a review, Round 1 of the 2026 Toyota GR Cup, held last March at Riverpark, Cavite, is said to have attracted more than 6,000 spectators. It was during that weekend that the series debuted the Tamaraw Racing Class, which makes use of the locally made Tamaraw one-make race car.

Now, Toyota PH has given the green light for the GR Cup’s Round 2, which will be happening on July 9 to 11 at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga. It is the second out of the four race weekends planned for the Toyota GR Cup in 2026.

For Round 2, the Japanese car brand said that the Toyota GR Cup returns with sustainability at the forefront. As a “rolling laboratory,” the racing event will utilize low-carbon biofuels to run its two one-make race vehicles, the Vios OMR and Tamaraw OMR.

Through motorsports, Toyota PH believes that the extreme racing conditions will serve as a test platform for the usage benefits of a five percent coco-biodiesel blend (B5) and a 20 percent bio-ethanol blend (E20). Toyota added that engineers and teams can gather data from real racing conditions and use those findings to support future mobility solutions.

“Motorsports has always been a testbed for progress, and this season, TGR Philippines will take a step forward by actively exploring alternative fuels in competitive racing conditions. Testing biofuels in motorsports allows us to evaluate performance, efficiency, and reliability in high-demand environments, so this will be a pivotal moment for the wider adoption of low-carbon biofuels in the Philippines,” shared TMP First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations Elijah Marcial.

“As a company committed to reducing carbon emissions, we recognize that every activity must contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable future. Alternative fuels help reduce dependency on non-renewables like petroleum, so using biofuel for our motorsports events aligns with our multi-pathway approach, which includes diversifying our energy sources to contribute to our broader goal of carbon neutrality,” shared TMP Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs Elvin Luciano.

Round 2 of the 2026 Toyota GR Cup will be open to the public on July 11. Admission is free.

Autocar’s Take

Toyota Motor Philippines has once again given the green light to its Gazoo Racing Cup, which will be at its second round this weekend. Round 2 will be held at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga on July 11, 2026. This specific round is interesting as Toyota PH will be using biofuels in the Vios OMR and Tamaraw OMR that will be racing this weekend at Clark. The data gathered from the said race can be used to possibly develop alternative fuel solutions. This is a nice initiative from Toyota PH, given that global fuel prices have not yet normalized and continue to fluctuate.
