Chevron Philippines, Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants in the country, has shown its care for the marine ecosystem as it successfully released 146 sea turtle hatchlings into open waters, bringing the total number of turtles nurtured through the program to 4,261 over the years.

CPI said that each release represents a meaningful step toward supporting the growth of the species in Batangas and maintaining balance within the local marine ecosystem. The sea turtle hatchlings are part of the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, anchored in nearly two decades of coastal cleanup initiatives along its Batangas terminal.

CPI added that these efforts have helped transform sections of the shoreline into safer nesting grounds for Olive Ridley sea turtles, a species that is said to be increasingly threatened by illegal trade and plastic pollution. As such, CPI is also doing its part in maintaining coastal environments clean to support conditions where marine life can thrive.

Among the initiatives that CPI has been implementing is its annual coastal cleanup program, which is the company’s approach to sustainability and responsible operations. Chevron has been doing coastal cleanup for many years now. In 2024, Chevron’s global shared services organization based in the country joined forces with several partner organizations and volunteers to collect 239 sacks of trash, equivalent to 12 tons, along the coastline of San Pascual, Batangas, for the annual Chevron Coastal Cleanup.

A total of 206 volunteers showed up along the five-kilometer shoreline of the Chevron Batangas terminal to help make the area a safe nesting ground for vulnerable Olive Ridley sea turtles. Chevron has been hosting the local San Pascual cleanup since 2007 and has recorded a stark increase in hatchlings.

Beyond its role as an energy provider, the company remains committed to initiatives that advance environmental protection while contributing to the long-term well-being of host communities across the Philippines.

Autocar’s Take

Chevron remains committed to doing its part in making the marine ecosystem better and cleaner by continuously implementing programs that can help support its cause. One of which is its annual coastal cleanup, a program that aims to keep coastal environments clean to support conditions where marine life can thrive.

As such, its efforts have resulted in new sea turtle hatchlings, which is a total of 146. This number is part of the total number of turtles nurtured through the program to 4,261 over the years. Indeed, Chevron Philippines remains committed to initiatives that advance environmental protection.
