The Land Cruiser FJ is one of the vehicles that Toyota Motor Philippines confirmed to be introduced locally. The said boxy vehicle is already available in Thailand, and while we wait for our turn, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has now made its official debut in Japan.
In the Japanese market, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is available with a single variant that’s equipped with a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline engine, which is the same power unit as the Thai-spec model. The said gasoline engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system. Power output is rated at 161 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque.
A diesel engine option is not yet available, but Toyota is reportedly working on it, and we could see the 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel powerplant among the power unit options sometime in 2029. This engine is already used in the Land Cruiser 250, Hilux, and HiAce. But, Toyota has not officially confirmed this as of this writing.
The Land Cruiser FJ that debuted in Japan comes with a sticker price of 4.5 million yen, which is about P1.75 million in current exchange rates. To put things in perspective, the Land Cruiser FJ in Thailand has a price tag of 1.269 million Baht, which is about P2.4 million.

As such, the Land Cruiser FJ sold in Thailand is more expensive compared to the unit sold in Japan, despite it being produced in Thailand. Import duties, local taxes, and market positioning are the reasons why the Thai model is priced higher than the Japanese model.
Speaking of market positioning, the Land Cruiser FJ’s Japanese price tag, which is around P1.75 million, makes it similar to the pricing of the Philippine-spec Toyota Corolla Cross V Hybrid trim, which is priced at P1,795,000. It is also priced closely with the G variants of the Fortuner, which is P1,775,000 to P1,867,000. On the other hand, if Toyota PH decides to offer the Land Cruiser FJ with pricing that’s similar to the Japanese version, it could also rival the likes of the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door, which has a price tag that ranges from P1,698,000 to P1,749,000.
In comparison, if we take into consideration the Land Cruiser FJ’s price tag in Thailand, it would then be priced similarly to the PH-spec Fortuner 2.8 LTD 4×2 AT trim, which is priced at P2,396,000 to P2,406,000.
That said, the Land Cruiser FJ’s Philippine debut is something to look forward to since it could shake up Toyota Motor Philippines’ model lineup. Although take note that the price comparisons shown here are not yet official and final. For now, we patiently wait for the Land Cruiser FJ’s arrival in the Philippine market.

Autocar’s Take
The Land Cruiser FJ is among the confirmed vehicles that Toyota Motor Philippines will be introducing in the market. The said boxy vehicle could shake up Toyota PH’s model lineup, as it could be priced between key models that the car brand is currently offering in the market. The price range that we are seeing as of this writing is not yet official and final. Toyota PH has yet to announce as to when it plans to launch the Land Cruiser FJ.
On the other hand, if Toyota PH adopts pricing similar to the Japanese-market Land Cruiser FJ, it could significantly affect the local SUV segment. Should the model arrive in the Philippines with a price close to P1.75 million, the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door may face tougher competition, as the Land Cruiser FJ could attract some of its potential buyers.
