The Honda Accord entered its golden era as it officially turned 50 years old this May 2026. As a celebration for one of its globally successful models, Honda is holding a special exhibit and will be releasing commemorative merchandise featuring the Accord.

The Honda Accord first debuted in the market in 1976, and was initially available only as a three-door hatchback powered by a Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion (CVCC) 4-cylinder engine. Then in 1979, the first-ever Accord sedan debuted. It was equipped with Accord’s first power steering system and its first true automatic transmission, a 3-speed, which was optional on all Accord units.

Since then, the Accord has become one of the most popular Honda models globally and has been among the vehicles of choice of people looking for a midsize sedan. In the Philippines, it went head-to-head with midsize sedan rivals such as the Toyota Camry and the Nissan Altima. Unfortunately, the Honda Accord bowed out in the Philippine market in 2022, with the Altima being discontinued in 2018.

Throughout its 50-year run, Honda delivered more than 25 million Accord units to customers across over 160 countries and regions worldwide. The Accord was also able to bag several awards in its 50 years in the market. The third-, fifth-, and seventh-generation models received the Japan Car of the Year award, while the 10th-generation model earned North American Car of the Year honors, reflecting strong recognition in markets around the world.

As such, it is only fitting for Honda to celebrate the milestone that the Accord has achieved over the years. A special exhibit featuring historic models alongside panels tracing the evolution of successive Accord generations will be on display at the Honda Collection Hall (Mobility Resort Motegi), in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, until June 30, 2026.

Exclusive commemorative merchandise will also be released by Honda. It will feature the Accord’s 50th anniversary logo and designs inspired by the first-generation Accord, which includes t-shirts, caps, mugs, and keyholders. The Japanese automaker said that it will be available through the Honda Goods Amazon Brand Store, the official online shop for Suzuka Circuit and Mobility Resort Motegi. Stores within both locations will also sell Accord’s 50th anniversary merchandise, but shipping is limited to Japan only.

Honda will also offer leather goods made from recycled Accord seat cover materials in collaboration with Cotocul, a Kyoto-based leather accessories brand. It will be available at the Cotocul official online store (shipping is limited to Japan only).

Autocar’s Take

The Accord is arguably one of the most popular models that Honda has ever produced. It has achieved global success over its 50-year run, and it is still offered as a midsize sedan. Unfortunately, it is no longer available in the Philippines, but in other ASEAN countries such as Thailand, the Honda Accord is still being offered as a hybrid sedan.

Honda delivered more than 25 million Accord units to customers across over 160 countries and regions worldwide. This feat is just one testament to the Accord’s global success. It also bagged several awards, which shows that it is integrated with top-notch design, craftsmanship, and performance.
