BYD Sealion 8

BYD officially unveiled the all-new generation of its flagship full-size SUV, the BYD Sealion 8, at Auto China 2026 in Beijing. Among the notable features of the latest-generation flagship BYD SUV is a combined peak power output of 643 hp and a range of up to 900 km.

BYD is further strengthening its global lineup by officially introducing its flagship full-size electric SUV, the BYD Sealion 8. Unveiled at the prestigious Auto China 2026 motor show, the all-new BYD Sealion 8 takes the spotlight with its dimensions of 5,115 x 1,999 x 1,800 mm (LWH) and a 3,030 mm wheelbase. For comparison, the Sealion 8 is just 92mm shorter than the Mercedes-Benz GLS.

In the Philippines, the seven-seater BYD Tang, with dimensions of 4,870 x 1,950 x 1,725 mm, is the largest SUV offering from BYD Philippines in the local automotive market to date.

The all-new flagship BYD SUV is set to be available in five-seater and six-seater variants. It is also said that the new model will adopt the brand’s latest technology, including a dual-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering. It also sports the next-gen BYD Blade battery, which supports the proprietary flash charging stations that the Philippines does not yet have, allowing charging from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes.

Powering the all-new BYD Sealion 8 is a dual-motor AWD system that outputs 480 kW (643 hp). It is said to have acceleration, going from 0-100 kph in just under five seconds. Although no official announcement has been made regarding battery capacity, the Sealion 8 is said to have a CLTC range of 900 km on a single full battery charge. Reports suggest that the Sealion 8 will share the same battery as another large BYD SUV model, the recently launched Great Tang, which features a 130.5 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack.

BYD announced that the all-new Sealion 8 will be sold within the year. Based on CarNewsChina, it is expected to carry a price tag of around 300,000 Yuan (around P2.663-million) when it finally hits showroom floors in China.
