Chinese car brand iCAUR is reportedly aiming to match Toyota’s level of reliability, as the Japanese automaker has built a reputation for producing durable and easy-to-repair vehicles. iCAUR CEO Ronna Luo told CarSales that the Chinese car brand is looking to follow Toyota’s approach of producing reliable vehicles such as the Land Cruiser Prado
The report stated that Luo acknowledged that the Land Cruiser Prado is a popular model in China, acknowledging Toyota’s reputation for producing easy-to-use and repair vehicles. As such, iCAUR intends to take all the positives it has learned about how Toyota develops and produces vehicles
“The Prado has been very, very popular in China … When designing our iCAURs, one of the big things that we learned from those brands is not to make the cars too complicated,” Luo said.
Luo added that vehicle buttons and functions should be easy to find and operate without requiring drivers to search through the central touchscreen. This is why iCAUR has gone back to basics by equipping its models with simple yet effective rotary knobs and toggle switches.
Luo also cited that the brand’s range-extender hybrid system is easier and more affordable to repair than having a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The iCAUR boss reportedly said that the range-extender hybrid uses a gasoline engine to generate electricity for the battery, which is easier to repair should the need arise.
In the Philippines, iCAUR has already opened the order books for the V23 battery electric vehicle (BEV) and V27 range-extended electric vehicle (REEV). To encourage early reservations, iCAUR Philippines is preparing a special early Christmas promotion for customers who reserve either vehicle during the pre-sales period. iCAUR is distributed locally by Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines, which is a subsidiary of Chery.
Of note, the iCAUR V27 was named the Best Interior Design Award winner in the Premium Car category at the 2026 Torino Automotive Design Award (TADA). Meanwhile, the iCAUR V23 has received the prestigious 2026 Red Dot Award: Design Concept, an accolade that is regarded as one of the most respected design honors globally.
