MG is definitely pushing forward with its electrification strategy. Case in point; the company recently unveiled a new generation of electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid technologies that could shape its future local offerings.

Headlining this development is MG’s new SolidCore Battery, making MG the first manufacturer to achieve mass production of semi-solid-state batteries. This next-generation battery promises improvements in driving range, faster charging times, enhanced safety, and stronger performance in low-temperature conditions. Moreover, it also features solid-state electrolytes designed to extend battery life and meet future regulatory requirements.

The SolidCore Battery is set to be introduced in MG’s European market electric vehicles (EV) by the end of 2026. It will be part of MG’s push to deliver more advanced and reliable EV solutions

Aside from this, MG continues to develop its Hybrid+ technology, which combines software and hardware innovations to improve efficiency, responsiveness, and overall driving refinement. It features a larger 1.83kWh battery, a unique 3-speed hybrid transmission, and an 8-mode logic engine that adapts power delivery depending on driving conditions. A fully integrated Hybrid Control Unit further enhances performance by adjusting propulsion modes in real time.

These global advancements were highlighted during the opening of MG’s new European Engineering Centre in Frankfurt, Germany. The facility will focus on developing vehicles tailored for the European market, while strengthening the brand’s global research and development (R&D) capabilities.

For the Philippine market, MG Motor Philippines is already laying the groundwork for electrification. Hybrid+ technology has been introduced locally through models such as the MG HS Hybrid+, MG ZS Hybrid+, and MG3 Hybrid+. These vehicles bring improved fuel efficiency and enhanced driving performance to everyday motorists.

“The introduction of MG’s latest battery and hybrid technologies globally signals an exciting direction for the brand, and one that we are eager to bring closer to the Philippine market. With Hybrid+ already available in the Philippines, this represents only the beginning of our electrification journey. As we continue to expand our lineup, our focus remains on providing Filipino customers with global-quality vehicles that combine innovation, performance, and everyday practicality—supporting the country’s transition toward smarter and more sustainable mobility.” said Wei Wei Zhang, President of MG Motor Philippines.

Autocar’s Take

Automotive electrification — what was once a dream for the future is now turning into reality. And MG’s latest push into semi-solid-state batteries and refined hybrid systems is an example of this. MG’s innovations in electrified mobility shows a brand that is no longer just catching up, but actively trying to lead in key areas of the rapidly growing industry.

By already introducing Hybrid+ models locally, MG is building familiarity while preparing consumers for more advanced technologies down the line. All MG has to polish now is timing and affordability, if it chooses to bring in these new technologies to the local market. If it can deliver these innovations at competitive price points, it could play a big role in accelerating mainstream EV and hybrid adoption in the country.
