Toyota has finally unveiled the 2026 Hilux in Thailand, making a major milestone for its iconic pickup truck. The 9th generation Hilux introduces a bolder design, a more refined interior, and an all-electric variant, signaling the brand’s commitment to a more sustainable future.

The highlight of the launch is the Hilux EV. Known in the region as the Toyota Hilux Travo-e, it’s the first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) version of its best-selling pickup. The good news is that it joins the 2026 lineup alongside the familiar 2.8-liter turbo-diesel powered version, ensuring that both traditionalists and those looking to adopt the EV lifestyle have an option that suits their needs. The move underscores Toyota’s strategy of balancing its proven diesel performance with the growing demand for zero-emission mobility.

Visually, the 2026 Hilux carries a stronger and more confident presence. The front end features a boxier and more upright stance, complemented by a larger grille, slim LED headlights, and a distinctive Toyota badge that completes the fascia. The overall look remains rugged yet more refined, staying true to the truck’s legacy of durability while embracing a modern aesthetic. It measures 5,320 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,800 in height. It also runs on a 3,085 mm wheelbase. These statistics not only give the Hilux EV a notable presence on the road, but also commendable interior space.

Inside, the 2026 Hilux takes a leap forward in technology and comfort. The cabin now evokes a more premium feel, akin to Toyota’s SUVs like the Land Cruiser Prado. On the dash are two 12.3-inch digital screens -n one for driver information and another for infotainment. This setup offers enhanced connectivity, clearer graphics, and a more intuitive interface. Improved materials, ambient lighting, and better sound insulation add to the sense of quality that owners have come to expect from Toyota.

The electric Hilux Travo-e introduces a new chapter in the model’s story. For starters, it gets power from a 59.2 KWh battery pack that’s capable of achieving a driving range of more than 300 km. The battery supports 10KW AC standard and 125 KW DC fast charging. It runs with a dual electric motor AWD system with e-axle. The Toyota Hilux EV produces 193 hp and a combined torque output of 473 Nm from its electric motors. This new EV pickup is expected to deliver the same practicality, toughness, and reliability that have made the Hilux a global benchmark. The company also confirmed that the electric version will be built on the same IMV (innovative international multi-purpose vehicle) platform as the diesel variant, ensuring familiar dimensions and versatility.

Toyota also updated the turbocharged 2.8-liter diesel engine. While it continues to deliver around 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque, Toyota added a mild hybrid technology into the powertrain, pairing the engine with an automatic transmission. This setup can be had in either a rear-wheel-drive or a 4WD option.

Based on the Hilux Revo BEV concept earlier shown in Thailand, Toyota is scheduled to begin the production of the next-generation Hilux by late 2025. With this in mind, Thailand is expected to be the first market to receive the Hilux EV, reflecting Toyota’s strong research and development presence in the region. A wider rollout across the ASEAN region may soon follow.

For the Philippine market, there’s still no official announcement from Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) regarding the arrival of the 2026 Hilux and its EV version. However, industry watchers expect the brand to make an announcement soon. Toyota typically rolls out new models in stages across different Asia-Pacific markets, with the Philippines being one of the key regions to get first dibs.

Following this strategy, Industry watchers predict that the 2026 Hilux could arrive in the Philippines by early to mid-next year. The question is, will TMP also consider bringing in the Hilux EV to challenge the rapidly growing local electrified pickup segment? If so, it will become TMP’s second BEV in the country, with the soon-to-launch Toyota bZ4X right around the corner.

The introduction of the 2026 Hilux reflects Toyota’s commitment to meeting the needs of diverse markets. In regions like Southeast Asia and Australia, where the Hilux continues to dominate sales charts, offering both diesel and electric options ensures that the brand stays ahead of evolving customer demands.
