23rd batch of Isuzu Heart and Smile scholars complete Automotive Servicing Course

IHSP Batch 23 Graduates with executives from Isuzu Motors Limited, IML Dealer Associations and Isuzu Distributors

Fifteen scholars from the 23rd batch of the Isuzu Heart and Smile Project (IHSP) have successfully completed a two-year Automotive Servicing Course at the Isuzu-TESDA Auto Mechanic Training Center in Tacloban. Each graduate earned the National Certificate IV (NC IV), the highest qualification in the program.

This educational initiative is a collaboration between Isuzu Motors Limited (Japan), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and World Vision. It reflects Isuzu’s long-standing commitment to supporting the development of underprivileged youth by equipping them with skills for gainful employment in the automotive servicing sector.

Since its launch in 2008, the IHSP has trained 436 students under a curriculum that combines TESDA standards with specialized training in Isuzu diesel technology. The program has consistently demonstrated high employment outcomes, with a current employment rate of 94.3%—67% of graduates are working locally, 24% abroad, and 3% are self-employed. Alumni now work in countries such as Australia, Japan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the US, and other regions in Asia and the Middle East.

Tetsuya Ikemoto of Isuzu Motors Limited underscored the importance of skilled workers in the local automotive industry, noting its steady growth and the increasing demand for qualified professionals. “We hope that through this project, graduates will use their skills to satisfy customer needs and contribute to the success of the industry and the nation,” said Ikemoto.

The ceremony also welcomed 18 scholars from Batch 27, who are set to begin their training this year. To mark the occasion, current scholars from batches 24 to 26 showcased their progress through a skills demonstration. Outstanding students were recognized for their performance during the program.

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) President Mikio Tsukui praised the graduates and highlighted the project’s broader impact. “We are proud to support these scholars as they take their first steps toward becoming professionals who bring value not just to the Isuzu network, but to society at large,” he said.

Now in its 17th year, the IHSP continues to reflect the Isuzu Group’s dedication to community development and social responsibility.
