VinFastPH promises a new era of electric mobility in the Philippines

The Mall of Asia, a bustling retail and entertainment hub in Metro Manila, became the host of a significant automotive event last May. VinFast, a pioneering Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, made its highly anticipated debut in the Philippines, showcasing a lineup of modern, sleek EVs.

The launch event transformed the area into a vibrant display of innovation. Onlookers were drawn to the futuristic designs of the VinFast models – the VF 9, VF 7, VF e34, and VF 5 – which promised to revolutionize transportation in the Philippines. The true excitement, however, was at the test drive area on the mall’s eighth floor, where eager customers experienced VinFast’s electric prowess firsthand.

Founded in 2017 by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, VinFast has quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach and ambitious expansion. The company was recently listed among TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2024, highlighting its rapid development and unique EV battery subscription model.

The launch event saw long queues of mall-goers eager to test drive the vehicles and learn more about the new brand. VinFast’s diverse lineup appeared to cater to various needs and lifestyles.

Ariana Evangelista, a Manila-based athlete, had her first experience with an EV, specifically the VF 5. “With the car being light and nimble, it’s going to be easy to drive, especially if I have errands to run or if I have a night out with friends,” she said. “This is definitely the car that I will bring because it’s so cute and small, and it can be easily parked anywhere.”

For the young couple Prince Rivero and Lesley Martinez, the VinFast VF e34, a larger crossover SUV with a 42-kWh battery and 148hp, stood out. Rivero, at 6’3″, appreciated its spaciousness, while Martinez liked its quietness and user-friendliness. Rivero noted that the VF e34’s powerful torque would be perfect for mountain trips in the Philippines.

The highlight of the event was the VF 9, VinFast’s flagship seven-seater e-SUV. It features a panoramic glass roof, a spacious interior, and advanced amenities like a 15.6-inch screen and a high-quality sound system. Professional hosts James Deakin and Candy Gamos were impressed by its luxuriousness and advanced features.

VinFast Philippines CEO Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc emphasized the company’s commitment to providing quality products at accessible prices. Although prices have not been announced yet, VinFast has partnered with four dealers in the Philippines to ensure a strong market presence and reliable after-sales service.

VinFast also offers a unique battery subscription policy, a 10-year warranty on vehicles, and a free battery replacement and maintenance program, demonstrating its customer-centric philosophy.

The positive reception at the launch event indicates a promising future for VinFast in the Philippines. Filipino consumers, increasingly seeking eco-friendly alternatives to traditional vehicles, welcomed the new player in the market. VinFast’s commitment to sustainability and innovation resonates with the growing environmental consciousness among Filipinos.

“We will be here for the long term,” said Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc, CEO of VinFast Philippines, as the company looks forward to becoming a major player in the Philippine automotive industry.

John So, a prominent content creator and influencer, praised the VF 7, a mid-size SUV, for its responsiveness and high-tech features. “It was such a treat to take the VF 7 for a spin a couple of times, very responsive, very high-tech,” So remarked.
Reph Bangsil, a Filipino content creator and entrepreneur, expressed his enthusiasm for VinFast’s entry into the Philippines. “I heard they have been around Europe, the US, Indonesia, and of course, Vietnam. And we’re one of the latest countries that they entered,” he said. “It’s very exciting because they’re already very established and secure as a brand.”
