Suzuki Philippines, Inc. reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability with a pawikan (sea turtle) release activity held at the Pawikan Conservation Center in Morong, Bataan. The initiative brought together company leaders and team members in support of marine wildlife protection and environmental conservation efforts.

At the head of the activity were Norihide Takei, Director and General Manager of Suzuki Philippines’ Automobile Division, National Sales Manager Ira Valte, and Jeff Lopez, Brand Communications Group Head of the Automobile Division. They were joined by members of Suzuki Philippines’ Marketing and Brand Communications teams, who took part in releasing pawikan hatchlings into the sea.

The hatchlings released during the activity originated from pawikan nests adopted by Suzuki Philippines during its earlier visit to the conservation center, which coincided with the Suzuki Fronx media and bank partners drive. During that initial engagement, the company also donated a Suzuki Jimny to support the center’s conservation and coastal monitoring operations. The vehicle was turned over to Pawikan Conservation Center President Aurelio Llenarez and Manager Angeline Vigo.

Data shared by the center highlighted the result of its conservation efforts. Out of 100 adopted nests, 9,468 Pawikan eggs were secured, with 8,713 hatchlings successfully emerging. These figures showed the outcomes of sustained conservation work and partnership with private organizations such as Suzuki Philippines.

During the visit, Suzuki team members were given a firsthand look at the pawikan conservation process. Under the guidance of the Pawikan Conservation Center team, participants were assisted in carefully digging through protected nests to collect the hatchlings before their release. The activity culminated with a sunset release along the shoreline of the West Philippine Sea, underscoring the importance of collective action in safeguarding marine ecosystems.

Suzuki Philippines shared that the pawikan conservation and releasing activity aligns with its “by your side” brand philosophy, which extends beyond mobility to community support and environmental responsibility. Through its ongoing partnership with the Pawikan Conservation Center, the company continues to contribute to marine conservation awareness and action.

Autocar’s Take

Corporate environmental initiatives are often judged by consistency, not scale. Suzuki Philippines’ ongoing collaboration with the Pawikan Conservation Center brings to the spotlight a sustained approach. The decision to adopt pawikan nests, support monitoring efforts through vehicle donation, and follow through with it via hatchling release activity adds credibility to Suzuki Philippines’ corporate social responsibility program.

While such activities do not replace large scale environmental policy, they help bridge the gap between private sector participation and grassroots conservation. In a country where coastal ecosystems face mounting pressure, long-term partnerships like this can play a role in protecting valuable marine species.
