The rising costs of fuel prices and transport fares, as well as the burden of heavy traffic and environment concerns are some of the daily challenges an ordinary city motorist faces. Speaking from reality, these challenges result in late arrivals to work, budgeting issues, health issues, and an overall decrease in productivity.
For some people, the option to accomplish daily tasks at home is a blessing, but for those whose line of work or business require physical travel, the challenges of mobility in the city, especially in Metro Manila, is something to take seriously. This is why in recent years, the push for alternative means of transport has intensified, hence the increasing number of small electric vehicles on the road today. Many “e-vehicle” brands have come forth to take on the challenge of breaking norms, and one of them is Sunra, a relatively young e-scooter brand from China.

Introducing Sunra, the trailblazing Chinese e-scooter brand
Founded in Beijing in 1999, Sunra has blazed its way through the industry, making a name for itself with such accomplishments as being the only e-vehicle provider in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, being one of the Top 500 Chinese Most Valuable Brands in 2012, and the first to launch a new generation of automotive-grade lithium batteries in 2020.
The good news is that Sunra is now in the Philippines, with the VST-ECS Phils, inc. as its official local distributor. It established its presence during the 11th Philippine EV Summit last year. For its initial salvo of offerings, Sunra highlights the Hawk and Robo S e-scooters, and the Miku Super e-bike, each engineered with the latest technologies that put convenience, sustainable mobility, ease of use, and style in mind.
Sunra Hawk, the way-in for easy riding in style
The Hawk is Sunra’s entry-level model, designed for those who prefer a convenient daily rider for work, school, or leisure. Weighing in at only 93kg (battery included), the lightweight Hawk is the ideal e-scooter for zipping in and out of tight city streets.

Under the rider’s command is a 1800W motor powered by Sunra’s advanced Lithium battery that can be charged at home or in location for up to 4 hours via 220v electric outlet. Sunra records the Hawk with a top speed of 45 km/h and a maximum range of up to 65 kms on a single charge with an average speed of 25 km/h. Of course, this number will change, depending on the rider’s preferred average speed or manner of use.

Designed with casual travel in mind, the Sunra Hawk’s highlight feature is its built-in bluetooth speaker that can be connected to a smartphone. This provides the occupant with a more spirited riding experience. Navigating media files is a breeze with the Sunra Hawk’s crystal clear instrument panel.
Sunra Robo S, the sleek utilitarian
Moving up the range, Sunra offers the Robo S, an e-scooter that delivers more than just the casual riding pleasure. According to VST ECS Phils. Inc. Sunra Philippines Trade Marketing Executive Clara Gadaingan, the Sunra Robo S is geared for the business-oriented rider or those who travel with extra things onboard.

The Robo S is motivated by a 3000W motor with the Sunra Lithium battery, providing a maximum range of up to 135 kms at an average speed up to 25 km/h on a single charge. It also tops the speedometer at 80 km/h. Similar to the Hawk, the battery can be charged at home or on location for up to 4 hours via 220v wall socket, and the range number is subject to change depending on the preferred average speed or manner of use.

The Sunra Robo S boasts a maximum loading capacity of 251 kg. With this in mind, Sunra fitted the Robo S with large cargo storage space good for standard size helmets or carry-ons with considerable amount of heft. It can also be kitted with a top box for extra loading capacity, perfect for food or small-item delivery purposes.
Sunra Miku Super, the sports-oriented e-bike for the enthusiast
At the top of Sunra’s model lineup is the Miku Super. With a name such as that, one can’t go wrong with what it’s for. To start, the Sunra Miku Super’s design gives a nod to the sportier, bigger, brawnier, more performance-oriented road bikes, while still keeping its frame small and light.

At the heart of the Sunra Miku Super is the same 3000W motor that moves the Robo S. As such, the Miku Super can also reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h, all thanks to the Sunra Lithium battery that can be juiced to 100% at home or on location via 220v wall socket for only 4 hours. And just like the Robo S, the maximum range is 135 kms at an average speed of 25 km/h. Push it harder, and one could reach top speed, however at the expense of a shorter max range at around 70 kms.

Clara says the Sunra Miku Super is the star of the show whenever they have model displays on bike shows. And her statement holds true by how unique the bike looks. As a photographer, I can’t help but to spend more time shooting this one, of course in its sleek shade of blue paintwork that matches its sporty frame so well.
And these are Sunra Philippines’ top models offered. Clara says more models are soon to be introduced, all packed with the brand’s tried and true design language and tech.
