Subaru previously announced it will launch a new five-door hatchback by 2027, but the Japanese automaker has yet to share more details about the upcoming vehicle. However, a recent US trademark filing could hint at the possible name of Subaru’s new hatch.

Based on the records available at the US Patent and Trademark Office, Subaru filed a trademark for the name “IMPREZA TX.” The filing is an intent-to-use application, which suggests that Subaru wants to lock in the said name to claim legal ownership for IMPREZA TX should it plan to use it in the future.

Now, the IMPREZA TX has not yet been confirmed as the name of Subaru’s new five-door hatchback. There’s also no official word yet on whether Subaru will use the IMPREZA TX on its future production car.

Moreover, the car brand has yet to share what the TX stands for; could it be Turbo Xtreme? Or could it be Turbo X, which suggests that the upcoming five-door hatch could come with turbo power along with a rugged, ‘off-road-ish’ exterior finish. What’s clear for now is that Subaru filed a US trademark, which gives the car brand the rights to the said model name.

Previously, Subaru showed its intent to keep the manual transmission alive, as it announced plans to launch a new five-door hatchback equipped with a manual gearbox. This news was announced during a press conference by Subaru Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Tetsuro Fujinuki at the Super Taikyu Fuji 24 Hours Race.

The details about the new five-door hatch are limited as of this writing. But Subaru said that it is being developed as an “affordable base car” that consumers can purchase at a reasonable price. From the looks of it, it seems that Subaru plans to introduce a new five-door hatch that will cater to car enthusiasts who desire to drive a vehicle equipped with a manual gearbox.

With that in mind, could the IMPREZA TX be the production-version name for the Performance-B STI Concept that debuted at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show? The concept showcased a compact, performance-oriented five-door design that emphasized driver engagement, a theme that aligns closely with Subaru’s renewed commitment to manual transmissions.

Autocar’s Take

Subaru previously announced that it will be launching a new five-door hatchback that comes with a manual transmission. The car brand intends to keep the manual transmission alive by introducing a hatchback that’s said to be being developed as an “affordable base car” that consumers can purchase at a reasonable price. It seems that Subaru wants to make the said car for individuals who crave owning and driving a car with a manual transmission.

As mentioned, the official specs and other vehicle details have yet to be shared by Subaru, which is doing its best to keep everything under wraps as it prepares to launch its new five-door hatchback by 2027.
