ShellPH empowers fleet operators with innovative solutions

The Philippines’ robust industry expansion, fueled by steady economic growth, has introduced new challenges for fleet operators in 2024. Worsening traffic nationwide is significantly impacting the total cost of ownership of commercial vehicle fleets. Additionally, the logistics industry’s rapid growth necessitates competitive pricing among industry players. To navigate these challenges, a thoughtful and deliberate approach is essential for maintaining viable and sustainable fleet operations.

Shell FutureCast: Transport of Tomorrow

In response to these industry challenges, Shell Pilipinas Corporation organized “Shell FutureCast: Transport of Tomorrow,” an exclusive event aimed at equipping fleet operators with the insights and tools needed to optimize their operations.

“Today’s event holds significant importance as we gather to explore and discuss the future of transportation. The theme, ‘FutureCast: Transport of Tomorrow,’ is particularly relevant as our industry is on the brink of revolutionary changes driven by innovation and sustainability. As we look ahead, it’s clear that the transportation sector is poised for unprecedented transformation,” stated Chris Alli, Head of Shell Fleet Solutions and Commercial Road Transport (CRT).

Addressing Global Climate Change

In addition to daily operational challenges, fleet operators now face the added pressure of global climate change and the necessity of energy transition. Jonas Marie Dumdum of the Nomura Research Institute highlighted, “As a result of global climate change, many companies are starting to decarbonize. The path towards decarbonization is long, but its impact will be significant.”

Innovative Solutions: Project Starship

Shell continues to seek improvements for the global transport sector through initiatives like Project Starship. Akankasha Sharma, Shell Lubricants CRT Sector Associate Manager, shared insights from this ongoing experiment, which utilizes readily available technology to design better trucks. In its third iteration, Starship 3.0 achieved 2.54 times better freight ton efficiency (FTE) than the US average, hauling the maximum allowable load of 80,000 pounds.

Sharma emphasized that measurable savings could be achieved through simple actions, such as switching to fully synthetic transmission oil and high-performance engine oil with low viscosity. “The lower the oil viscosity, the higher the benefit to fuel economy,” she explained. These measures significantly reduce fuel utilization and the total cost of ownership, contributing to a lower carbon footprint.

Optimizing Fleet Performance with Shell Rimula

High-quality engine oil is crucial for optimizing fleet performance. Shell Rimula, a range of heavy-duty engine oils formulated with advanced technology, plays a vital role in maintaining fleet efficiency. Shell Philippines offers a wide range of Shell Rimula products tailored to the local demand and fleet profile of the Philippines.

Shell Fleet Solutions and Telematics

Through the Shell Fleet Card, businesses gain access to premium fuels and lubricants, along with a comprehensive suite of tools and resources to achieve significant cost reductions and operational efficiencies. The Shell Fleet Card helps businesses identify opportunities for improvement, enabling fleet owners to focus on growing their businesses.

Recently, Shell Fleet Solutions Philippines launched a partnership with Cartrack, a global leader in telematics. This collaboration provides Shell Fleet Card customers with detailed vehicle and fuel analytics to enhance operational efficiencies. By integrating Shell Fleet Card and Cartrack telematics data, business owners gain unprecedented insights into optimizing fuel usage and increasing efficiency in fuel and fleet management. Cartrack’s real-time data on route optimization and driver behavior helps business owners achieve operational excellence.

Additionally, Shell Fleet Card customers can offset their fleets’ unavoidable carbon emissions through Shell’s voluntary carbon offset program. The program compensates emissions by purchasing carbon credits from a global portfolio of approved projects. Shell issues a yearly retirement certification confirming the compensation of the fuel’s emissions, seamlessly integrating the charges into the customers’ accounts.

Future of Transport

“The future of transport is not just a concept—it is a dynamic and ongoing journey that requires our continuous effort, innovation, and commitment. Let us take the insights and inspirations from today and apply them to our daily endeavors, driving positive change and making a tangible impact on the world,” concluded Jackie Famorca, Shell Pilipinas Vice President for Lubricants.
