Staying true to its commitment of pushing for electrified mobility in the country, Nissan Philippines is set to add another electrified model in its line up, the Nissan Kicks. At its recent track day event wherein people from the local motoring media were invited for an experiential drive of its ePower technology, the Japanese auto brand also confirmed the Philippine arrival of the electrified subcompact crossover SUV.

Set to pit against other electrified crossovers in the country, the new Nissan Kicks will be officially launched in the local market next month, as confirmed by Nissan Philippines.

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.’s Akihiro Shibuya and Naoki Nakada together with Nissan Philippines President Juan Manuel Hoyos.

The Nissan Kicks will be the first Nissan model in the country to feature the brand’s e-Power technology. The Kicks will feature 100% full electric-drive motors driving its wheels while still carrying a gasoline-powered internal combustion engine (ICE). However, the ICE does not have any mechanical connection to the drivetrain. The gasoline engine will only be used to generate electricity to charge up the electric motor’s battery.

Report says that the ICE tasked to charge up the battery will be the HR12DE 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine that boasts fuel efficiency of 22 to 25 km/L. As for the main driving duties, the EM57 electric motor, that is also found in the Nissan LEAF, will be delivering 136 hp and 280 Nm of all electric torque to the wheels. As per Nissan engineers present during its media track day event, the brand aims to give driving excitement to Kicks users through the instantaneous torque it delivers from dig.

Another feature to look forward to with the Nissan Kicks is the ePedal. In simple terms, this feature allows the driver to accelerate, decelerate, and brake using only the accelerator pedal. Aside from instantaneous launches, deceleration and braking with ePedal can also be done by just simply easing off the accelerator pedal. Deceleration force can reach up to 0.15G by just lifting off the accelerator pedal. The idea behind this is for easier city drives and more exhilarating drives on open roads.

Aside from its arrival, further details are yet to be shared about the Philippine-market Nissan Kicks. Reports suggest that the Kicks will be available in three variants. Pricing is also yet to be determined. For reference, Nissan launched the Kicks in Thailand in 2020 with a 889,000-baht price tag for the entry-level variant.
