Those planning to go somewhere in Manila or via Manila roads are advised to prepare or plan their alternative routes. The city government of Manila, headed by Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso, has implemented widespread road closures and traffic rerouting this week as authorities roll out traffic management measures for activities related to this year’s Feast of the Black Nazarene.
According to the Manila Public Information Office (Manila PIO), several roads surrounding the Quirino Grandstand have now been partially closed since the morning of January 6, 2026 in connection with the Pahaik rites. In relation to this, the Katigbak Parkway and South Road areas will be limited to one accessible lane as the opposing lane is reserved only for vehicles heading to Manila Hotel and H2O Hotel. Portions of Independence Road will also be temporarily closed.

Traffic disruptions are expected to escalate on the evening of January 8, 2026, ahead of the Black Nazarene procession from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church. The Manila PIO said full road closures will be along the LGU’s key thoroughfares, including Bonifacio Drive, Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, P. Burgos Avenue, Finance Road, Maria Orosa Street, Ayala Boulevard, Quezon Boulevard, Legarda Street, C. Palanca Street, Romualdez Street, Jones Bridge, and MacArthur Bridge. Authorities noted that these closures will be implemented progressively as the procession advances.
To address congestion, detailed rerouting schemes have been put in place for both southbound and northbound traffic. Southbound vehicles from Mel Lopez Boulevard (R-10) heading toward Roxas Boulevard will be diverted through Capulong Street, Yuseco Street, and Lacson Avenue. Meanwhile, España Boulevard bound for Quezon Boulevard will be rerouted via N. Reyes Street and C.M. Recto Avenue.
On the other hand, northbound vehicles from Roxas Boulevard heading toward P. Burgos Avenue will be redirected through United Nations Avenue, P. Guanzon Street, and Mabini Bridge. Separate alternative routes have also been designated for trucks, trailers, and light vehicles to reduce congestion near the procession route.

The Manila City government emphasized that these traffic measures are intended to prioritize public safety and maintain order during the religious activities which are expected to draw a large number of devotees. Motorists are advised to monitor official advisories, avoid affected areas when possible, and plan their trips carefully during the Nazareno festivities.
