MPT South joins International Coastal Cleanup Day 2024

Last September 21, 2024, Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South), a proud subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), took part in the International Coastal Cleanup 2024, organized by the Santa Rosa City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO). The event was held along the picturesque shores of Laguna Lake in Barangay Caingin, Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

With a dedicated team of 42 employees from various departments, MPT South showcased its commitment to environmental stewardship by participating in this significant initiative.

This year’s International Coastal Cleanup brought together over a thousand volunteers from various companies and organizations in Sta. Rosa, united in addressing the pressing challenges of plastic and waste pollution threatening our coastlines, waterways, and local communities. Held annually, this event aims not only to remove trash from the shores but also to raise awareness about the critical importance of protecting our rivers, lakes, seas, and oceans.

At Point B of the coastline in Barangay Caingin, MPT South employees actively engaged in cleaning efforts, collecting waste and ensuring that this section of Laguna de Bay was restored to a cleaner state. Their efforts contributed to an impressive total of over 2,016.5 kg of waste collected. Across the entire cleanup event, volunteers gathered 591 sacks of trash, comprising 126.5 kg of PET bottles, 611 kg of plastic laminates, 2,938 kg of residuals, and 314.3 kg of special waste. This brought the total amount of waste removed from the shores of Barangay Caingin to a remarkable 3,989.8 kg.

The coastal cleanup is part of MPT South’s larger Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, emphasizing the importance of preserving the natural environment in the communities it serves. Through such initiatives, MPT South demonstrates its dedication not only to enhancing transportation via its expressways but also to protecting the vital ecosystems surrounding these areas.

Ms. Arlette V. Capistrano, Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management at MPT South, stated, “As a company closely tied to the communities of South Luzon, we recognize the significance of our environmental responsibilities. We eagerly anticipate our continued participation in the International Coastal Cleanup. MPT South is devoted to being a strong advocate for environmental protection and sustainability.”

MPT South remains committed to supporting environmental initiatives and sustainable practices, aiming to make a positive impact on both communities and nature. The company is steadfast in its focus on environmental protection efforts, which are essential steps toward advancing community development and raising environmental awareness.

As part of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the infrastructure division of Metro Pacific Investment Corporation (MPIC), MPT South also manages key toll road networks such as CALAX and CAVITEX, in addition to its extensive domestic portfolio, which includes the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector Road, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu.
