Ahead of its Philippine launch on July 22, Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines has put the upcoming Jaecoo J5 EV to the test. The good news is the electric SUV pulled through with notable numbers, facing against a long-distance drive aimed at showing what it can achieve outside of laboratory testing.
In more detail, the company announced that the J5 EV covered a calculated 539.2 km on a single charge, surpassing its official driving range of 461 km. The endurance run was observed by representatives from the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), adding an independent presence to the activity.
The route began at Petron Marilao in Bulacan before heading north via the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX). From there, the convoy continued to La Union before making its way south to Subic, where the drive concluded.
According to Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines, the vehicle had already traveled 432.2 km by the end of the run while still displaying an estimated 107 km of remaining range. Combining the two figures resulted in the projected total of 539.2 km. The demonstration comes just days before the official introduction of the Jaecoo J5 EV in the Philippine market, where it is expected to compete in the growing compact electric SUV segment.
Powering the J5 EV is a front-mounted electric motor producing 204 hp. The crossover is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, while its battery supports DC fast charging from 30% to 80% in around 28 minutes under compatible charging conditions.
Although the company highlighted that the J5 EV exceeded its advertised range during the drive, it is worth noting that real-world driving distances can vary depending on factors such as traffic, driving style, road conditions, terrain, passenger load, and weather. Official range figures are also measured under standardized testing procedures that may not fully reflect everyday use.
The Jaecoo J5 EV is expected to carry a starting price of around P1.399 million when it arrives in local showrooms. Omoda & Jaecoo Philippines will also back the model with a seven-year or 200,000-kilometer vehicle warranty, along with an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty covering the battery and electric motor. With the launch now just around the corner, the endurance drive serves as an early preview of what buyers can expect from Jaecoo’s newest electric offering as competition in the Philippine EV market continues to intensify.
