Isuzu Heart and Smile Project partners celebrate the graduation of Batch 22 scholars

Isuzu Motors Limited Japan (IML), in collaboration with TESDA and World Vision, proudly celebrated the graduation of Batch 22 scholars from the Isuzu Heart and Smile Project (IHSP) at the Isuzu-TESDA Auto Mechanic Training Center. This year, 18 students completed the intensive two-year Automotive Servicing Course, earning the prestigious NC IV certification, the program’s highest qualification.

Empowering Youth Through Education and Skills Development

Since its inception in 2008, the Isuzu Heart and Smile Project has embodied Isuzu’s commitment to transforming lives through education. Supported by IML, TESDA, and World Vision, IHSP aims to uplift underprivileged youth by equipping them with technical skills essential for a promising career in the automotive industry.

To date, IHSP has produced 421 graduates, achieving a remarkable employment rate. Among them, 66% are employed locally in service shops, 26% work abroad, 4% have established businesses, and another 4% have pursued further education or careers in other fields.

Graduates working overseas are contributing to top global markets, including Australia (26%), Japan (19%), Saudi Arabia (18%), the UAE (16%), and Qatar (7%), with others thriving across Asia, America, and the Middle East.

“This program pushed us to dream big. Before joining IHSP, many of us had no means to pursue higher education. Thanks to the generosity of IML, TESDA, and World Vision, we now have the skills to achieve our goals,” said Edmar Garcia, Batch 22 Valedictorian.

A New Chapter Begins with Batch 26

The ceremony also welcomed Batch 26, a new group of 18 scholars embarking on their two-year training in automotive servicing, set to graduate in December 2026.

Existing students showcased their expertise during a Skills Demonstration, while special awards were given to recognize exceptional performances during the program.

“We are proud that IHSP has empowered hundreds of underprivileged youth, providing not only quality education but also employment opportunities within the Isuzu dealer network and abroad. This reflects Isuzu’s commitment to building stronger communities through skills development. We are honored that the Philippines remains at the heart of this impactful initiative,” said Tetsuya Fujita, President of Isuzu Philippines Corporation.

TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez commended the program’s exceptional outcomes: “While the average employment rate for TESDA schools is 80%, the Isuzu-TESDA Auto Mechanic Training Center stands out with a 95% employment rate. This success underscores the invaluable partnership with IML and World Vision. To our graduates, I urge you to use your skills to uplift your families and communities. The future is defined by skills,” he said.
