Horacio Pagani celebrates 70th birthday with the ultimate Huayra

Pagani Automobili is less a car manufacturer and more a boutique artist whose works just so happen to be on four wheels. From the early minimalism of the Zonda C12, the aerodynamic wizardry of the Huayra and its aero flaps, to the mechanical madness of the Zonda R with its screaming V12.

Aside from that, the Italian marque is also known for honoring numerous figures, from the Zonda F in honor of Juan Manuel Fangio, the Zonda Tricolore for the Frecce Tricolori, to the Huayra BC in honor of its first customer and close friend to Horacio himself, Benny Caiola. And now, the latest tribute from the San Cesario outfit is intended directly for the founder. Much like the Zonda HP Barchetta, which honored Horacio’s 60th birthday, the Huayra 70 “Trionfo” was made to commemorate his 70th.

Although the Huayra already has its successor in the form of the Utopia, Pagani’s Grandi Complicazioni division couldn’t pass up what a good canvas the Huayra is for this homage. From the dark green carbon fiber with matching orange accents to the new bare diffuser — almost everything, except the doors and window frames, was changed for this special edition.

But the changes don’t stop at just aesthetics. From the single headlights and vertical DRLs, this lean green machine also gets some power tweaks. The 6.0-liter twin-turbo AMG heart is being bumped up from the original 789 horses all the way up to 834 hp, sending all that to the rear wheels through the same 7-speed Xtrac manual transmission found in the one-off Epitome. It’s a fitting match of mechanical heart and muscle if you are any analog advocate out there, myself included.

So what does the Trionfo have to say about Pagani’s approach to cars? Well, much like most Italian marques, whether they come from Maranello, Sant’Agata, or even San Cesario, passion is the name of the game for those living in the land of the green, white, and red tricolore.

However, Pagani takes it a step further into the realm of bespoke artistry. From the Huayra’s transmission being bare for the eyes to behold from the interior to the side mirrors echoing the image of feminine eyes, people call a Pagani ‘art’ because it shows in the craftsmanship.
