Hongqi Philippines announced that its E7 mid-sized electric vehicle (EV) sedan returned a notable efficiency rating during the Department of Energy’s Fuel Eco Run held last September 24, 2025. Aside from the E7, other Hongqi EVs, such as the EHS7 mid-sized SUV and the EHS9 full-sized SUV, participated in the Fuel Eco Run.

The DOE’s 2025 Fuel Eco Run covered a 154.5-kilometer route from Tarlac through Pangasinan to La Union via the Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX). It was participated in by over 70 vehicles from various car brands, including Hongqi. The Fuel Eco Run was intended to generate credible, real-world energy efficiency data. Among the car brands that participated in the said event are the following: Honda Cars Philippines, Inc., Suzuki Philippines, Lynk & Co, and Tesla, among others.

The EVs representing Hongqi were its dual-motor AWD variants of the E7, EHS7, and EHS9. The E7 returned an efficiency rating of 51.16 km/l while the EHS7 posted 48.79 km/l and the EHS9 yielded 40.57 km/l.

Hongqi shared that both the E7 and the EHS7 generate an output of 610 horsepower and 756 Nm of torque. In terms of range, the E7 mid-sized EV sedan has up to 640 km (WLTP) of range on a single charge, while the EHS7 electric SUV comes with up to 540 km (WLTP) of range.

The Chinese luxury car brand shared that during the DOE Fuel Eco Run along TPLEX, the vehicles were driven to reflect typical highway behavior. During the test, the vehicles accelerate to overtake slower traffic at 100 km/h before returning to a cruising speed of 80 km/h.

Hongqi Philippines President Rashid Delgado said that the DOE Fuel Eco Run reaffirms the car brand’s commitment to offering EVs that combine performance with real-world efficiency.

“The DOE Eco Run results reaffirm Hongqi’s commitment to delivering electric vehicles that combine exceptional performance with real-world efficiency. Hongqi’s BEVs demonstrate that high performance and efficiency can go hand in hand,” Delgado said.

“From our dual-motor AWD models … each achieves strong power and notable energy efficiency, reflecting our commitment to engineering excellence and a refined driving experience across the entire lineup,” Delgado added.

Autocar’s Take

Hongqi Philippines’ participation in the Department of Energy Fuel Eco Run shows the car brand’s willingness to have real-world energy efficiency data. By participating in the said test, Hongqi can confidently use the data that its EVs got during the DOE’s Eco Run when promoting its EVs.

Aside from having the luxury to confidently share the efficiency numbers, Hongqi’s EVs now have increased credibility when talking about efficiency. This is also the reason why other car brands join the DOE’s Fuel Eco Run: to have credible and real-world efficiency numbers that they can use when promoting their respective vehicles.
