Green Xentro has officially launched one of the biggest electric taxi deployments in the Philippines. Case in point: the company recently rolled out 2,500 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Antipolo City, Rizal. The move was made possible through a strategic partnership with Vietnamese mobility platform Green GSM.

The initiative will be implemented in phases, starting in Rizal province before branching out into Metro Manila and nearby areas. Initially planned at 2,000 units, the fleet was scaled up to 2,500 taxis, signaling growing confidence in the project’s long-term viability.

The partnership follows a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2025 between Xentro Group and Green GSM. It introduces a hybrid operational model that combines global platform standards with localized execution. Green Xentro will oversee day-to-day operations, including driver management and market adaptation. On the other hand, Green GSM will provide the vehicles, digital infrastructure, and service standards.

Each taxi unit is equipped with GPS tracking, in-cabin CCTV, dash cameras, and emergency alert systems connected to a 24/7 operations center. The fleet is also backed by a comprehensive insurance package, providing added peace of mind for both drivers and passengers.

The service aims to deliver consistent and predictable ride experiences through standardized operations. Passengers can either hail an EV taxi directly or book a ride via the Green GSM app, with transparent pricing and multiple payment options including cash and digital platforms. All vehicles are fully air-conditioned and powered by electricity for a quieter and cleaner urban transport.

For drivers, the platform introduces a salaried employment model, complete with fixed monthly pay, performance incentives, and full benefits. This approach seeks to improve income stability and elevate professional standards within the sector. Drivers will also undergo structured training in safety, service quality, and EV operations.

Beyond mobility, the project is also expected to contribute to local economic growth through job creation and the expansion of EV charging infrastructure within the Xentro network. The transition to a fully electric fleet also aligns with the common goal of reducing emissions and improving air quality in urban centers.

Autocar’s Take

This rollout signals a meaningful shift in how public transport could evolve in the Philippines. Beyond the headline numbers of 2,500 EV taxis, all of which are VinFast VF e34 models, what stands out is the structured approach, most particularly the salary-based driver earnings and standardized service framework. These address long-standing issues in the sector, from income instability to inconsistent passenger experience.

While infrastructure and EV adoption challenges remain, the partnership between Green Xentro and Green GSM presents a working model that balances technology, income sustainability, and real-world operations – things that could influence not just ride-hailing, but the future direction of urban mobility in the Philippines.
