The Automotive Body Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (ABMAP) strongly supports the continuation of the Public Transport Modernization Program (PMTP), as emphasized by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
ABMAP Executive Director Edgar Manuel underscored the program’s significance in enhancing road safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
“We commend Secretary Dizon’s commitment to modernization. Upgrading to Euro 4-compliant vehicles is a crucial step toward safer, more reliable public transport and cleaner air,” said Manuel. “ABMAP members are prepared to assist operators and cooperatives in acquiring high-quality, globally compliant vehicles.”
Launched in 2017, the PMTP mandates stricter emissions standards and fleet consolidation to improve public transport management. ABMAP believes the program will deliver long-term benefits for drivers, passengers, and the transport sector.

“We acknowledge the concerns of some stakeholders, but modernization isn’t about removing traditional jeepneys—it’s about improving them for a better commuting experience,” Manuel added.
ABMAP remains committed to working with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ensure a fair, sustainable, and inclusive transition for transport operators and the riding public.
