The Nissan Navara Pro, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), is a pickup truck that has been confirmed to be launched in markets such as Australia and the Philippines. In fact, Nissan Philippines announced that the Navara Pro will arrive at dealerships nationwide on November 6, 2026, alongside the Primera (N7) EV sedan.

Nissan said through its global release that the Navara Pro has been developed with 1.5- and 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid powertrains, as well as a gasoline- or diesel-powered option. The Japanese automaker clarified that the powertrain availability will vary by market, which will be derived from customer preferences.

The Philippines would most likely have the Navara Pro PHEV with a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid powertrain, as suggested by the documents from the Department of Energy. In Australia, reports state that it is requesting Nissan to offer the Navara Pro PHEV with the larger 2.0-liter engine so it can have a 1,000-kilogram payload and 3,500-kg braked towing capacity. Aside from opting to have the 2.0-liter engine, Nissan Australia is also considering offering the diesel-powered Navara Pro.

Nissan Oceania CEO Steve Milette told Australian publication Drive that the car brand is looking into bringing the diesel-powered Navara Pro.

“There is an option [diesel-powered Navara Pro] overseas, we are looking at the business case if it makes sense in the context of the portfolio we have today,” Milette said.

“There’s nothing imminent in the short-term, but like I said, there is a fuel type – that’s diesel – in that segment for a long time, and there is a subset of the customer that will only have that because it’s agriculturally based,” Milette added.

Milette clarified that bringing the diesel-powered Navara Pro to Australia is not yet final and is still up for discussion.

To put things in perspective, Nissan previously said that the ICE or the diesel engine option will be offered in the Middle East while the PHEV will be available in Latin America, ASEAN, and Oceania.

The Navara Pro will go on sale in Mexico in October 2026, followed by the Philippines in November and the Middle East and other Latin American markets by the end of the year. Australia and New Zealand will follow in 2027.

The Navara Pro is designed, developed, and manufactured in China by the Zhengzhou Nissan joint venture. It is the first Nissan model developed and produced in China for global export. Speaking of which, the Navara Pro, sold as the Frontier Pro in China, is available with a 2.3-liter diesel engine that delivers 189 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Autocar’s Take

The Nissan Navara Pro is an important product for Nissan, as it is a pickup truck that comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is also the first Nissan model developed and produced in China for global export. In the Philippines, the Navara Pro PHEV gives the car brand’s model lineup a refreshed look, as it has been offering the Navara for quite some time now. It also gives Nissan Philippines a challenger to the likes of the BYD Shark.
