Geely Motor Philippines had a strong sales run in September, as it posted 1,023 units sold. The car brand intends to carry that momentum for the rest of the year with the Philippine debut of the Geely Monjaro EM-i, the brand’s flagship hybrid SUV.
Before the Monjaro EM-i arrives in the Philippines, Geely said that it has already been put through one of the world’s most demanding driving environments: the Sahara Desert. The Geely Monjaro EM-i showed its capability, as it set a new Guinness World Records title for the “Fastest crossing of Egypt’s Black and White Deserts in the Sahara by a plug-in hybrid powered production SUV.”
The feat featured the Geely Monjaro EM-i completing a continuous 188.6-kilometer route from the Black Desert to the White Desert. The car brand said that the Monjaro EM-i had to drive through and manage the extreme heat and challenging terrain in the nearly 190-kilometer desert run.
The Guinness record-setting drive was not simply about covering distance. Geely shared that the Monjaro EM-i was subjected to five professional capability challenges covering extreme handling and stability, repeated steep-slope climbs, cross-axle recovery, rough-terrain ride comfort, and acceleration at a low state of charge.

The Geely Monjaro EM-i is set to make its Philippine debut by the end of October 2026. Described by Geely as its “Executive Performance Flagship,” the Monjaro EM-i is a D-segment (midsize) SUV that combines a plug-in hybrid powertrain with premium-oriented features, intelligent technology, and all-wheel drive.
Official specs for the PH-spec Monjaro EM-i have yet to be shared by Geely PH. But the global specs show that the Monjaro EM-i is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged dedicated hybrid engine that delivers 340 horsepower and 667 Nm of torque. The Chinese car brand claims that it has an NEDC-rated pure EV range of up to 130 kilometers, and has a combined range of up to 1,200 kilometers (NEDC).
Autocar’s Take
Geely Motor Philippines is in full attack mode, as it is determined to carry its momentum in the local market by launching another product offering: the Geely Monjaro EM-i. The Monjaro EM-i is a midsize plug-in hybrid SUV that could give Geely PH an extra push toward its sales targets. It’s a good addition to the brand’s current top-selling products, which include the Geely EX2 EV and the Geely EX5 EM-i. It’s interesting to see how it plays out for Geely PH, but from the looks of it, the car brand is in a good position to regain its foothold in the Philippines.
