GAC Philippines has officially launched the GS4 Max HEV, adding a new hybrid SUV to its growing lineup with a focus on family practicality, fuel efficiency, and technology.

Powering the GS4 Max HEV is a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle dedicated hybrid engine paired with a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and a 2.1 kWh Nickel Cobalt Manganese battery. The system produces a combined 232 hp and 300 Nm of torque.

GAC says the hybrid system can operate through Pure Electric, Hybrid, Direct Engine Drive, and Energy Recuperation modes. For long-distance driving, the GS4 Max HEV offers a rated combined range of up to 1,250 km on a single tank.

Externally, the GS4 Max HEV takes a more distinctive approach with a Qilin-inspired front fascia and Qingyun Ladder matrix grille. The front end is complemented by Morning Star LED headlights, while a full-width Changhong LED taillight treatment gives the SUV a wider visual presence at the rear. Electric hidden door handles complete the cleaner exterior design, giving the GS4 MAX HEV a more contemporary look without moving too far away from its practical SUV character.

Meanwhile, the SUV also puts considerable emphasis on cabin space. Its 2,750 mm wheelbase and 1,901 mm body width are designed to provide generous legroom and shoulder room for passengers in both rows. The cabin features zero-pressure comfort seats, rear air vents, acoustic insulation, and storage spaces aimed at everyday family use.

For added practicality, the second-row seats can fold completely flat, creating a continuous load floor for larger items such as strollers, sports equipment, or luggage.

Safety technology includes a Level 2 driver assistance suite with adaptive cruise control (ACC), forward collision warning (FCW), autonomous emergency braking (AEB), traffic jam assist, lane Keep assist (LKAS), lane departure warning (LDW), and integrated cruise assist. A surround view camera system is also included.

Tech-wise, the GS4 Max HEV gets a 10.1-inch multifunction touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 50W wireless smartphone charger with cooling.

The model is available in Planet Silver, Hoary Grey, and Crystal White, all paired with a Minimalist Black interior.

Priced at P1,218,000 under an introductory offer, the GS4 Max HEV carries an SRP of P1,298,000 and comes with P80,000 in introductory savings for reservations made until September 30, 2026. Reservations are now open through GAC dealerships nationwide.

GAC Philippines is backing the GS4 Max HEV with a nationwide network of 30 dealerships, two years of free roadside assistance, and a five-year or 150,000-km basic warranty. Its power battery, driving motor, and motor control unit receive an eight-year or 150,000-km warranty.

With the GS4 Max HEV, GAC is entering a competitive space with a hybrid SUV that puts range, family-friendly space, and equipment high on the agenda.

Autocar’s Take

The GAC GS4 Max HEV arrives at an interesting time for Filipino buyers. Hybrid SUVs are becoming increasingly attractive because they offer a middle ground between conventional engines and full electrification. At PHP 1,218,000 during its introductory period, the GS4 Max HEV makes a strong case on paper by combining family-friendly space, 232 hp, advanced driver assistance, and a claimed 1,250-kilometer range.

The test, of course, will come with everyday driving, where fuel economy, refinement, and after-sales support matter just as much as specifications. Still, this GAC hybrid SUV looks like a serious contender for families seeking practical, efficient mobility.
