Aside from the MG G50 PHEV, MG Philippines has also introduced the MG5 Prestige early this April. The MG5 Prestige is a subcompact sedan that goes up against the likes of the Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Mitsubishi Mirage G4, among others.

The MG5 Prestige is a subcompact sedan that comes with a striking exterior design, which could arguably go head-to-head with the likes of the Vios (not the Ativ model) and the Mirage G4 in the design department. The MG5 Prestige’s front fascia is equipped with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and a unique upper grille design. The front end’s striking appeal is further highlighted by the angular bumper that’s integrated with horizontal slats and black trims.

Turning at the side, the MG5 Prestige has a clean profile that is characterized by a flowing line just below its beltline. It also has power-adjust side mirrors that are integrated with turn signals, while the two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels give enough style points on the MG5 Prestige’s side profile.

Speaking of wheels, this sedan comes with disc brakes on all wheels. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,607mm long, 1,818mm wide, and 1,489mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,680mm. The MG5 Prestige comes with a 45-liter fuel tank.

The rear is fitted with distinctive LED taillights, giving the MG5 Prestige a sharp look. It also comes with a large bumper, which allows the vehicle to have a bold presence when viewed from the back.

Inside, the MG5 Prestige has a dark interior theme along with piano black accents and white stitching. Placed right at the center of the dashboard is a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, a push start button, and an electronic parking brake with auto brake hold function.

The instrument cluster is a combination of a conventional speedometer and a tachometer that are enclosed in a round design. It has a 3.5-inch digital display between the two round shapes, which provides essential vehicle information such as the vehicle’s speed, total distance travelled, time, and current selected gear, among others.

The seats are wrapped in synthetic leather, with the driver’s seat coming with a 6-way manual adjust, and the front passenger with a 4-way manual adjust. It also has rear air conditioning vents to help keep the cabin cool, especially when there are passengers. Other interior amenities include two USB ports at the front, one USB port at the rear, a sunroof, keyless entry, a center console armrest and storage, and front and rear reading lights.

In terms of safety and tech features, the MG5 Prestige is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, electronic stability program, hill start assist, and four airbags.

The MG5 Prestige also has rear parking sensors, a rear view camera with dynamic guidelines, cruise control, tire pressure monitoring, and Isofix.

Under the hood, the MG5 Prestige is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that puts out 109 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and power is sent to the front wheels.

MG Philippines is offering the MG5 Prestige with the following exterior color options: Diamond Red, Phantom Black Metallic, Cosmic Silver, and Dover White. The MG5 Prestige comes with a sticker price of P888,888. It is also offered with three years of roadside assistance and a five-year vehicle warranty.

Autocar’s Take

The MG5 Prestige is a subcompact sedan that comes with a striking exterior design that could rival the likes of the Vios (not the Ativ) and the Mirage G4. It arguably has the looks to stand out from the competition, and also comes with a decent interior package, which could entice buyers to consider MG’s subcompact sedan. The MG5 Prestige is also equipped with essential tech and safety features, which arguably make it a bang-for-the-buck sedan, considering its P888,888 price tag. Aside from that, it also comes with three years of roadside assistance and a five-year vehicle warranty.
