Changan is preparing to make waves in the Philippine compact sedan market with the upcoming launch of the Eado Plus. This new entry is positioned to challenge established players such as the Toyota Vios and Honda City, while also competing with newer rivals like the BYD Seal 5. It will replace the Alsvin in the subcompact segment, giving Changan a more up-to-date sedan contender to complement its SUVs like the CS55 and X7 Plus, city-slicker EVs like the Lumin, and even pickup trucks like the Nevo Hunter K50 range-extended pickup.
Its arrival further broadens Changan’s growing portfolio in the Philippines. In recent years, the brand has steadily expanded its offerings to cover multiple market segments. SUVs such as the CS55 and the Uni-T cater to buyers seeking stylish crossovers, while city-slicker EVs like the Lumin target urban drivers seeking efficient, environmentally friendly mobility. The lineup also includes the Nevo Hunter K50 pickup, giving the brand a presence in the highly competitive lifestyle truck market.
Changan has also previously introduced an electric sedan to the local market. The Eado EV460, which arrived in the Philippines last year, has found a niche among fleet operators, particularly within the taxi sector. Most notably, Inchcape partnered with EV Taxi Corporation (EVTC) to deploy the electric sedan under Grab’s GrabTaxi Electric program, where it currently serves as the sole vehicle model used for the service.
For the Philippine market, the Eado Plus will be offered in two trim levels: Lite and Luxe. However, crucial details such as engine specifications, performance figures, and pricing have yet to be revealed. These details will ultimately determine where the model lands within the competitive sedan landscape.
Until then, the Eado Plus can only be positioned broadly within the segment. Longstanding nameplates such as the Toyota Vios and Honda City continue to dominate thanks to their reputation for reliability, strong resale value, and proven fuel efficiency. At the same time, other challengers, including the Nissan Almera, MG 5, and an increasing number of models from newer Chinese manufacturers like BYD, have made the sedan market more competitive than ever.
For Changan, the challenge will be convincing buyers that the Eado Plus can match the established players while offering the value and features that have helped many Chinese brands gain traction in recent years. With details still limited for now, the best way to find out what the Eado Plus truly offers will be to see it in person when it officially appears on the 25th.
