Kia unveiled the EV5 WKNDR (Weekender) concept at the 2025 Guangzhou Motor Show, showing how the Korean automaker transforms its vehicles into an off-road-ready machine. This is not the first time that Kia has revealed a beefed-up version of its vehicles, as the EV5 is the fourth model in its WKNDR series that includes the EV9, PV5, and the Tasman.
The Kia EV5 WKNDR is designed for individuals who are fond of exploring the great outdoors, which is the same concept that can be seen on other WKNDR vehicles from the car brand. Kia shared that the EV5 WKNDR is meant for those who want a vehicle that can take on both the urban jungle and the rugged off-road terrain.
At first glance, you can already see the design updates that Kia integrated into the EV5, which is the car brand’s compact crossover electric SUV. The WKNDR treatment gave the EV5 a more rugged and muscular finish as compared to the standard version. It is fitted with black claddings at the front, side, and rear, which are said to give extra protection to the EV5’s exterior when navigating through tight terrain.
The Kia EV5 WKNDR comes with a muscular stance thanks to the widened wheel arches. The car brand also said that the EV5 WKNDR features an increased ground clearance, 20-inch all-terrain tires, and retractable tow hooks at the front and rear.

Another interesting design equipped on the vehicle is the action camera that’s mounted on the front hood panel, while the roof rack further gives the Kia EV5 WKNDR versatility. From the looks of it, we can’t help but imagine that the Kia EV5 WKNDR and the Hyundai Crater Concept could be ideal vehicles for overlanding.
Inside, Kia shared that the EV5 WKNDR features a “blue spruce” interior color, which is accented by “citrus green” trim, creating a color scheme that makes the cabin a “space connecting the city and nature.”

It has a large screen display on the dashboard, along with removable camping ambient lighting. The center console has a built-in intercom, while the seats are said to be removable and foldable rear seats to make space for an assortment of items. The tailgate can also be removed, which can be used as a portable table.
The Kia EV5, which will be offered locally next year, is an electric vehicle that has an 81.4kWh battery and a 160kW front-mounted electric motor. It delivers a maximum range of up to 530 km (WLTP) on a single charge. It has a fast-charging capability, which Kia claims can charge the EV5 from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
