Chinese car brand GAC is reportedly planning to produce a pickup truck that will be positioned as one of its offerings in Australia, a country with a strong affinity for this vehicle type.
The said piece of information came from one of GAC’s top executives, saying that a double-cab pickup truck is part of the car brand’s “mid-term” product rollout, with Australia being one of the targeted markets. GAC Deputy Manager Cheney Liang is tight-lipped about the specifics but did mention to Australian-based publication CarSales that GAC is committed to offering “impressive cars to the Australian customer.”
Liang also told CarSales that producing and launching a pickup truck is indeed in GAC’s product pipeline. However, Liang did not share further details and only said that “at this stage I cannot announce the exact date, but they are on our plan.”

GAC is no stranger to pickup truck development, having already showcased what a GAC truck could look like at the 2025 Shanghai International Auto Show.
At the said auto show, GAC revealed the Pickup 01, an all-electric concept under the car brand’s New Energy Commercial Vehicle brand. CarNewsChina reported that GAC will reveal the production version of the Pickup 01 concept in 2027, and it will be sold in markets such as Australia, Saudi Arabia, Chile, and Mexico.
Design-wise, the GAC Pickup 01 concept seems to be inspired by the Tesla Cybertuck’s exterior design. Like the Tesla, the Pickup 01 features an angular design throughout the vehicle’s exterior. The similarity with the Cybertruck is further seen when you view GAC’s concept truck from the side.

Other details about the GAC Pickup 01 concept include the car brand’s GAC Adaptive Intelligence Architecture (GAIA), which is said to be a platform that can adjust the suspension system and power output. It also features several drive modes, including urban, off-road, and tow. The Pickup 01 is also integrated with GAC’s suite of electronic driver-assist features, such as the X-Soul Safety Shield.
