Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) continues to make motorsports more accessible and structured through the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Academy Philippines (TGRA). Held at Clark International Speedway, the academy provides aspiring racers with fundamental skills and track experience, serving as a stepping stone into competitive racing.
The program is divided into two key segments:
- Classroom Training: Participants learn essential racing principles, track etiquette, car control, and braking techniques.
- Track Exercises: Under expert guidance, participants apply their skills in slalom drills, which test agility, and a “follow the leader” session, which introduces them to optimal racing lines.
Many first-time participants shared their excitement:
- Karis Alexandra Santos, a karting enthusiast, explored car racing for the first time: “Driving a race car feels different, but it’s just as exciting!”
- Miguel Corrales was impressed by the comprehensive training: “I expected just basic drills, but we got to run the full track at a decent speed—it exceeded my expectations.”
- Ella Nicole Bornilla, an advocate for women in motorsports, emphasized the academy’s inclusive approach: “Programs like TGRA help break down barriers in racing, making it more accessible for women and newcomers alike.”
Andy Ty, TMP’s Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services, reiterated the company’s commitment: “TGRA is our way of bringing motorsports closer to fans. We have more sessions planned this year, and we encourage enthusiasts to join.”
Since its launch in 2014, TGRA has trained many drivers, some of whom have progressed to professional racing, including the TGR Philippine Cup, Toyota’s premier racing series.
Motorsports fans can witness the first race weekend of the TGR Philippine Cup on March 22, 2025, at Clark International Speedway, with free admission.
