Chevron, a prominent long-term US investor in the Philippines, in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), recently hosted a leadership seminar for top students from leading universities. The event featured insights from the General Managers of Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) and Chevron Holdings Inc. (CHI).
These students are participants in the AmCham Business Leadership Program (BLP), which offers Filipino students significant exposure to executives from top companies in the Philippines. The BLP aims to enhance students’ understanding of business’s role in national development and provide a global perspective on key economic issues. The program exclusively invites top university students to appreciate the contributions of American multinational companies to the country.
Chevron, recently recognized as one of the “Best Companies to Work For” at the HR Asia Awards 2023, has been a dedicated supporter and sponsor of BLP for the past 20 years.
Ethan Flowers, General Manager of CHI, shared his career journey and strategies for effective team management. Billy Liu, General Manager of CPI, followed with a discussion on achieving work-life balance.
“Intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, and analytical skills are crucial in a career with large companies like Chevron. These skills will help you contribute effectively to your team,” said Ethan Flowers.
“We need to prioritize our health and maintain a work-life balance to deliver our best work,” added Billy Liu.
BLP alumni Tonie Miclat and Eds Bernardo also shared how the program helped them secure positions at Chevron and advance their careers. The session aimed to inspire and motivate current BLP students to pursue their career goals with perseverance.
“We are delighted that our students have the opportunity to engage with Chevron executives, gaining valuable insights that will inspire them in their career journeys. We are grateful to Chevron for their ongoing partnership and for hosting this exclusive event,” said Pinky Jamili, Business Leadership Program Project Manager, AmCham Philippines.
“Celebrating our 20-year partnership with this program is a joy for us at Chevron. Both CPI and CHI have engaged in meaningful discussions with hundreds of bright young Filipino students over the years. We take great pleasure in sharing our experiences and leadership insights, believing they will significantly benefit the students’ career journeys,” said Ethan Flowers.
The event also featured Chevron scholars from the University of the Philippines – Diliman. It concluded with an office tour, giving students a glimpse of Chevron’s various departments and a chance to meet employees.
